This year was the last year of a multiannual contract with the Parkstad Limburg Stadium. The contract needs to be renewed, and it is also a year in which we needed to make decisions on several new investments. The question for the DCE board to ask is how we can keep the foundation healthy (in regard to the organisation and the finances)

It's Always about the money; Always.

Not necessarily true... If they're burned out, they're burned out, you know? Or, as they state, their situations changed and their volunteerism untenable.

When there's a will there's a way, but if there's no will....

When there is a comfortable source of revenue and a well paid staff is secured for the vital positions the volunteers within the organization do rather short stints and they are not required to take on the success/fail aspects of the organizational situations; thus in those organizations volunteers are typically plentiful, happy, and do not burnout .  But when volunteers are required to take on vital and important organizational duties, when they are required to volunteer more and more and more time without compensation, and when they, the volunteers, have the burden of the organization collapsing if they cease volunteering, yes it is downright difficult to secure volunteers and burnout to the point of the organization collapsing typically occurs.  By the way; 'Will' does not pay the bills, and requiring volunteers to put in increasing time and effort does not rectify the situation but only worsens it. So again, it is Always about money; Always. Even in the case of volunteer burnout.

sounds like they kept it internal though. reaching out to the corps themselves could have been a huge help

You got it in one.. DCE was totally internal, with NO corps representation within the organization, hence why it only lasted 15 years.

Very sad. I'm wondering if this have an impact of corps in different parts of Europe especially in the UK.

DCUK was always separate from DCE. The only affect on UK corps as of now is one less show.. Kerkrade.. which by all accounts, the various corps are working together to ensure a European championship this year.. it just may not be in Kerkrade is all.

I get what you're saying, but is it realistic to think that none of the participant organizations had any inkling that something was imminent?  No one asked any questions or saw any cracks?

Glad to hear the implications are minimal.

It will be interesting to find out what the bank balance was when they made the decision.

I'm not convinced it's always about money; there's no evidence that's the case here...yet.
