Best Musical Moments In DCI

Recommended Posts

So I am currently putting together a flash drive with a huge amount of different "clips" from shows throughout drum corps history. I do not know what all to put on this flash drive, so I figured this would be the place to ask. What are some of the best musical moments in DCI history?

Care to share what you've collected so far?

So far, nothing. I already know that I am going to add "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "When A Man Loves A Woman", but other than that, I have nothing.

Opener and closer of PR 2003. Nothing like Sanctus hits! (I suggest not using the finals recording, there were some intonation issues that night.)

I've been on an SCV kick lately, so from that:

'17 Closer

'16 Ballad (Sanctuary)

'15 Ballad (Pure Imagination)

'14 Opener

'13 Opener (Look Down)

'12 Opener (Jupiter/Leonardo Dreams of His Flying Machine) or Closer (Mars/Music of the Night)

'11 Ballad (The Eternal Knot)

'10 Middle Movement (not really a ballad, but not not a ballad....idk, Bartok was weird)

'09 Closer (Simple Gifts) or just that entire show!

'08 Closer (Cloudburst)

'06/'07 I don't really remember...

'05 Closer (Chorale from Russian Christmas Music)

'04 Closer

'03 Ballad (One Man Show)

'02 Opener (Trivandrum)

'01 Closer (New Era Dance)

'00 Ballad (Adagio for Strings)

'99 Opener (The Canyon)

'89 Closer (Music of the Night)

Take your pick from 1993:

Phantom - fire of eternal glory

Cadets - On a Hymn Song of Philip Bliss

Madison - Strawberry Soup

Blue Devils - entire show...might be the best horn book ever in DCI

Star - Medea's Dance of Vengeance

I love these moments. The '15 ballad is one of my favorite DCI ballads of all time. The 14 opener is one of the best opening hits off all time...in my opinion...lol.  I would like to add the '87 show with Russian Christmas music and pictures.

1996 PR

In its entirety.

For sure. An incredibly lush, dark, musical show.

Gonna throw their 1992 1812 overture in there too. I would imagine you are going to get a lot of PR feedback on this thread.

Carolina Crown:

Watch any show 08-16 or the 17 opener and pick your own moments. Probably the cleanist, most musical, jaw dropping hornline. I am partial to 08,12,14, and 15.

Bluecoats:

2014 hymn of axiom ballad

2008 the boxer ballad

Boston:

Wicked Game ballad 2017

Spirit of Atlanta:

Georgia on my mind 1980

Thank you so much for this!
