Tad_MMA
Is there a recording of their marching warmup anywhere? PBS only catches the tail end. (Steve R: "They're just warming up, folks; you're not missing anything." Oh really?) Still one of the most underrated musical books out there. I just listened to the symphony -- they arranged the heck out of it! Too bad they had to follow Madison. Yikes. Halp!

They used the 4th mvt opening passage (the fanfare) as a warm-up prior to being judged; that is what the OP is referring to. Is that opening fanfare passage warm-up on the CD? 84BDsop
I don't remember the warmup being on the CD....it was not a running start like 89 was. And agreed that the show was VERY underrated....

That hornline had such a clear, pure sound, and likely had the fewest audible errors. Technically, overall, the corps was great. Tied for 1st in combined performance captions. The excellent brass/percussion scores outweighed a 5th in Visual Performance. The music arrangements were brilliant and there were some great drill moments. The shortcoming was in GE. Madison, BD, and SCV had them beat in entertainment value. Edited December 14, 2017 by Ediker Added a sentence
