Scrolled past the name, but read the post. I said -- that's gotta be Terri!  :-)

I think "Saro" is more often referred to as "Pretty Saro".

But I could be wrong.

While Genesis's show may be inspired by the Pink Martini cover of "Que Sera Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)", the song was actually written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans for Alfred HItchcock's 1956 remake of his 1934 film The Man Who Knew Too Much. Livingston and Evans won their third Oscar for it.

It's fun to go back and watch The Man Who Knew Too Much piano scene... as well as listening to how it really functions in a way that current soundtracks do not... actually part of the story-line but also functioning at the very same time as background music to dialogue.

Thanks for that. That Hitchcock scene (and credit should also go to the screenwriter John Michael Hayes) was presumably inspired in part by the legend of Richard I, imprisoned during the Crusades, being discovered by his minstrel, Blondel de Nesle. The legend has Blondel traveling about, singing one of Richard's favorite songs, until he hears Richard singing in response. Coincidentally, the same legend is generally agreed to be the source for Sam's discovery of Frodo in the Tower of Cirith Ungol in J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which was published just a year earlier.

In film, a comparable use of music to further the plot might be "The Hall of the Mountain King" whistling in Fritz Lang's M (1930).
