corps8294
Great. Now there will be at least five corps performing West Side Story next year.

You don't have that experienced talent in Hollywood today for musicals. Rita Moreno took over for Chita Rivera in the Anita part in the original Broadway production and played the part on the national tour

I thought that performing any Bernstein music required approval from the Bernstein Foundation? It's not like they are going to start approving the playing of his music when a nice big check is potentially coming from a film from Spielberg. Look at what the Cadets committed to just to play Mass.

She is listed for a minor role in Skydrift in the 1940's but the next credit is the Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window in 1964.

That said, all of those source make mistakes from time to time, especially as regards older titles. If she were a mid-run replacement, I'm not sure she'd be listed. But the IBDB cast listing for the original run of West Side Story appears pretty exhaustive. There's nothing in her Wikipedia entry about performing WSS onstage either. Interesting to learn, though, that like Richard Pryor, she had an affair with Marlon Brando.

Bluzes
Not expecting much from this and would not like to see this music altered by Hollywood. Worked in California for a while and Steven Spielberg hired a double to sit in an upscale coffee shop and click around on his laptop really looked like him. That's a better job than being paid to be Rip Van Winkle in the Catskills.
