Cadence Makes Its DCA Debut In 2018

Recommended Posts

Hi Gents

Yes we ahad our first outing Sunday 17 at DCUK Barnsley. It was a typical early season show for us...nervy, a few calamities (the entire first act) but the members finished strong which was great.

Its probably difficult to predict the Dcuk sheets compared to DCA as we have 3 field judges. I’ll try to find the boxe sheets @BigW if it will help you answer the half guess.

in Dcuk all corps stay in open class until after prelims then it’s split before finals in the evening dependant on the number of corps competing. For example 9 corps in prelims split three a class finals then six open class finals. We have hovered around third or fourth in open class for the past four years but I am not afraid to admit that after Kidsgrove and the Company in the top two there is a bit of a gulf of approx. 10 points most years to the next few corps...we hope to make that gap smaller this year and beyond.

Our choice to declare A class in DCA was based on our member numbers and what we saw as comparable competition. Now A class has filled out a bit it will be interesting to see what the two from open (sky and gold) are like this Summer. I have looked for videos from the first two DCA shows on the web but nothing seems to have made it out yet.

In less than ten weeks we hit the USA with our first show appearance at the Reading show and I think we have highland regiment there too so it will be great to get some competition before finals weekend.

see you soon.

Interesting that they still have on field panel members. Adds a totally different scoring issue to the mix. Perceptions are totally different from bottom to top.

Saw this in action last fall with two marching bands who were ranked one way--and not too close--in OMEA (where only the percussion judge is on field and all the rest are in the box) and then ranked the opposite way--and again not too close--a week later in BOA (where there is no percussion judge at all, but there are, besides a number of judges up top, also music and visual judges at field level).

(In that case, I thought the OMEA judges had the order right but not the spread.)
