Yep. For instance, the high school marching band that placed third in Bands of America's Grand Nationals in 2016 had just seen its director let go earlier that year when it was revealed there'd been an incident at a school where he previously taught.

That director's wife continued to run the program after he left and the word was she did most of the work anyway. That same program also failed to make finals the next year after she retired and went through 2 directors finding a permanent replacement. One of which resigned before even starting the job because too many assistants thought they were going to tell him what to do.

A whole other story none the less but success can all come down to the difference between a figurehead director and someone who is more hands on with the success of the program as to what impact it has. I give that program a ton of credit for accomplishing what they did in spite of the early season distractions but the program ultimately became quite dysfunctional as a result because of an internal power struggle. Something the Cadets need to be very cautious of as it moves forward.

Logistical question:

Let's say Hopkins is fired.  Let's say anyone who knew about this and said nothing is fired.  Who could take over YEA and the Cadets in a manner that would be seamless to their operation?

No one could. Even if Cadets and Cadets2 field shows this summer, which I think is an open question, they're going to stumble. In BOA, William Mason dropped from third in 2016 to twentieth in 2017.

I've stated elsewhere that it wasn't smart at least for Hopkins to wait until the article came out to resign.

BUT...where does everyone get this 3 months thing?  I've read the article twice and didn't see where they mentioned they were asked for comment back in December/January?

it was apparently a very hot topic shortly after the Januals. many people knew something was brewing. And few said anything because if false, serious issues on them. I know. I hoped it wasn't true, despite this behavior being the worst dirty secret in the activity for eons. Many of us hoped it wasn't true because of the fallout. Many hoped and prayed it was true because of how they feel about George.

this isn't something you brag about at parties when the true background of the story isn't known.

Read what you want between the lines. DCI has several skeletons (past and present) in their own closet to worry about. They need to tread water very carefully

If DCI has skeletons in the closet they need to stop treading water and address the issues.

Not sure if anyone has seen or posted the official statement from YEA regarding the terrible news, but here it is from their site: https://yea.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&layout=edit&id=2003

Statement from the Board of Directors of Youth Education in the Arts

This is a painful moment for all those who care about The Cadets and Youth Education in the Arts. Today a newspaper published multiple allegations of sexual misconduct on the part of the organization’s CEO, George Hopkins. The anguish conveyed wasn’t missed. It was difficult reading for all.

George has resigned. Though he denies the allegations, he believes stepping aside is in the best interest of the organization. We agree. His resignation is effective immediately.

The best thing YEA! can do now is move forward through programs like The Cadets, Cadets2, USBands and Xcape. We have a full schedule and intend to keep it. Sean King, a fixture in the YEA! office and a veteran leader of so many of its programs, will be acting as CEO in the interim. There will be further appointments in the days to come. And as we proceed, this board and our staff will make certain our workplace and our programs provide a safe environment for all.

This situation began in January, when board members received an email demanding that we remove the CEO of YEA! or see allegations of misconduct published in the press. It was the first time any such allegations were communicated to the board. From the beginning, the board took the matter seriously and engaged a law firm to investigate the anonymous claims.

The investigation was conducted professionally and vigorously. Unfortunately, there was no cooperation at all from anyone making those accusations. Despite our pleas for cooperation, we were told so long as George remained in his role, no one would allow herself to be interviewed or reveal any facts that might confirm the allegations. No responsible board of directors can take action based solely on anonymous allegations. One of the many disappointments in this regrettable situation is third parties who claimed specific knowledge of these allegations failed to assist in bringing this to a proper resolution, offering instead to bury those same allegations if the board took preemptive action.  The investigation proceeded anyway.

Today was difficult for everyone. We expect tomorrow to be better. The Cadets will have their April camp this weekend as planned. More music will be learned. More progress will be made on the way to another great summer. USBands has outstanding shows planned for the fall. The dancing at Xcape won’t stop. This board is committed to fulfilling the organization’s mission on behalf of the thousands of young women and men it serves. We hope you will help us.

I would bet a crispy that DCA cuts ties with Cadets2 . They really had a thorn in their side over hotel gate and were looking for a good reason to bump them . Bet Cadets2 is gone

with Rich in charge the last few years, that relationship has been very civil

OK, that's old news from 2011.  Plus, he was just asking to do what some other corps have long done.

other corps had an established travelling alumni and fan base that would buy the rooms. C2 didn't. Hence the issue. it's since smoothed over
