It is a shame that a major news outlet isn't prepared to handle this in a more discreet manor than Google Forms.

Don't know why but I just had a vision of a lot of people within DCI running to the door or jumping out of windows.

What a joke.  Fishing for free news - what happened to pounding the beat and doing the legwork themselves?

This just smells like fishing for carp.

I strongly disagree. Asking readers for tips has been a standard part of journalism forever. You saw Spotlight, right? Remember how it ends?

If they have been surprisingly inundated with a volume emails, voicemails and contacts that they weren't prepared for at the time, it seems like a reasonable action. Combine this action with the fact that they don't have a standard Secure Drop or method to encourage PGP-secured emails for this process suggests that this story is bigger than the news unit is scaled to handle in the normal flow of business.

How does one "pound the beat" looking for abuse victims?  Knock on random doors?

The can of worms has been opened. The next logical step is to use said worms as "bait".
