N.E. Brigand
On 4/6/2018 at 7:50 PM, CrownBariDad said: Southwind (from their FB page): Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps is, above all things, a youth organization. That means we take the safety and security of our members, staff and alumni very seriously. That’s why Southwind has a stringent policy on harassment with well-defined guidelines on respectful ways to interact with one another. This includes conduct between members, between staff and members, and between our vendors and members. Our policy is a zero-tolerance policy. Further, our policy is clearly explained at the beginning of every season with clear-cut rules how staff and board members are to interact with corps membership. Employment with Southwind is contingent on fully understanding and agreeing to these rules. As an additional precaution, all staff members, board members, and volunteers must submit to a screening for any questionable past actions. Drum corps is an extraordinarily rewarding experience for its members and staff alike, teaching both musical skills and self-reliance, lessons that serve its members and alumni for life. We believe that drum corps creates lifelong friendships based on mutual trust and shared experience. We are proud of the safe and nurturing environment we create for our members, youth who come to us from all walks of life. And we look forward to continue creating a positive experience for future generations of performers. Southwind also has that message and more on the very easy to find "Harassment Policy" tab on their website: http://www.southwind.org/harassment_policy.html

I don't see anything about member safety.

N.E. Brigand
OK, as far as I can tell, each of the following organizations has put out some sort of response and/or has a prominent, robust policy in place: Academy Atlanta CV Battalion Blue Devils Blue Knights Blue Stars Bluecoats Boston Crusaders Carolina Crown Cascades Cavaliers Chops Inc. Colts Columbians Crossmen DCA DCI Erie Thunderbirds Guardians Heat Wave Jersey Surf Madison Scouts Minnesota Brass Music City Oregon Crusaders Pacific Crest Raiders Sacramento Mandarins Santa Clara Vanguard Seattle Cascades 7th Regiment Southern Knights Southwind Troopers Watchmen I would not describe all of the statements issued by the corps or groups above (especially DCA [as originally posted]) to be adequate, but something is better than nothing. And as far as I can tell, nothing has been said by the following corps, nor do they have harassment and/or whistleblower policies anywhere easy to find: Bushwackers, Carolina Gold, Cincinnati Tradition, Connecticut Hurricanes, Fusion Core, Gold, Golden Empire, Govenaires, Hawthorne Caballeros, Impulse, Incognito, Legends, Louisiana Stars, Phantom Regiment, Pioneer, Reading Buccaneers, River City Rhythm, Shadow, Skyliners, Spartans, Spirit of Atlanta, Stentors, Vessel, White Sabers Let me know if I missed something. And if you are affiliated with any of the above groups, on the first list or the second, maybe check in with them and make sure you feel what they're doing is good enough. Edited May 16, 2018 by N.E. Brigand Added Blue Knights. Moved Bluecoats, Boston Crusaders, Crossmen, Guardians, Raiders, and SCV to first list.
