I'm hearing (on here? FB?) it's all bleacher seating. few pics I've seen aren't close enough to tell, but SEEM to corroborate. if so, that would suck

unless it's being changed as we speak, yes bleacher seating

The lead-in part's been sitting for decades off US 11-15. Heck, I remember seeing it driving my Opel with Rook in the passenger seat headed to a Bucknell contest. That dates it seriously.... :innocent:

hey 581 sat there at 81 from the 70's til 96. and 15 heading north being widened to 4 lanes above Perdix isnt quite 30 years old. Look how long it took to finally get an interchange where 95 meets 276?

Route 15 around Gettysburg was a two laner forever until about late 80s. There it took someone to put mangled cars on girders painted white. One car for each death on the stretch of road until state got embarrassed. Correct me if I have it wrong but IIRC the environmental part is a big reason for the Sunbury bypass hold up. Pollution issues and one area will not support the roadway.

I know... The Blue Route.... and the infamous Pittsburgh "Bridge to Nowhere" Dad had to explain to me as a kid when I looked at a picture and asked why the bridge was sticking halfway out into the river....

Not intended as a slight, but more along the lines of humor:  When Williamsport was announced as the 2018 DCA championship city, I went online to have a look at what amenities might be available. I looked at attractions. Kinda slim in that department. Bar/lounge in the hotel I'll be staying at? Yep. That's good. I don't drink, but I still want someplace to hang out and have a Coke. Culinary establishments? Under Seafood, here's what is listed:  "Long John Silvers" and "Red Lobster".  :) Now I get it; Williamsport Pa. is fairly landlocked. There won't be seagulls or crab cakes. I'll have to make do with one of the two options available. (You'll find me at Red Lobster) I did see one "pub grub" establishment that looks promising and I'll give it a shot, too. The stadium looks great for the corps. If we don't have to push pit instruments up a mountainside, that's a big plus in my book. The seating is a tad problematic for us older folks. If somebody were to set up a barbecue venue at the stadium, I'll bet they'll do plenty of business. (that's a hint) We're all in this together, so lets give Williamsport a chance. :)

the stretch from 15 at Winfield down to Shamokin Dam and the bridge to nowhere. Same thing holding 99 up from being done between State College and over to Williamsport

i dont know how you avoid the hill. But there's a lot of options on the outskirts of town you may not see when you do research

Depends where you live and if you need to take US 15. For those of us  who take that route it is very relevant. Too bad the Sunbury area bypass won’t be done for a few more years as will hit it either way.

Edit mapquest says not quite 3 hours between Williamsport and Rochester. Also say about 4.5 hours for 260 or so miles. (My town and Rochester) That must be non holiday weekend and very strong bladder lol

Well, when I said from the south, I meant from the South (Charlotte NC., for example), not south PA.  In fact there is slightly over a 2  hour difference between Charlotte to Rochester and Charlotte to Williamsport (11 h 30 m - 9 h 20 m).

Accessibility to Williamsport is a concern no matter from where one comes, but when it comes to Drum Corps enthusiasts, specifically DCA, this shouldn't affect attendance.

Actually Jeff said southern so I took your response as fans in general. Yes 9 vs 11 hours bad either way. For some of us in the northeast and drive the distance does make a difference. Especially if being in a car for long periods of time is not good

i think it'll help. more PA and MD will be attending is my hunch to offset any loss from upstate NY
