Hi everyone,

During these past few months, there has been a continuous line of drum corps going inactive because of issues that relates to recruitment of members, finances, and poor leadership by staff members of corps. Below is a list of all the corps that have gone inactive.

Inactive Corps:

Minnesota Brass -  ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 4/23/18

Kilties - ( DCA Class A ) - inactive as of 4/23/18

Alliance - ( DCA Open Class ) - inactive as of 2/21/18

Rocketeers - ( All Age Soundsport Group/ DCA Class A Applicant ) - inactive as of 4/17/18

Rivermen - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 1/17/18

Appalachian Sound - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/15/18

Lone Star - ( Junior Soundsport Group ) - inactive as of 3/19/18

These corps suffered from at least one of the situations listed above.

I have recently been in touch with some corps that are looking to return to DCI Competition. However, these corps feel that at the moment, the problems that I have listed could potentially fall upon them. As a result of this, these corps are holding off efforts to get back into DCI competition. Below is list of corps that fall under this category.

Teal Sound - World Class - hopes to return in near future. Doesn’t want to return yet because of the incident that happened with YEA.

Spirit of Newark - Open Class - hopes to return in the near future. Cannot return yet due to lack of financial support.

Racine Scouts - Open Class - hopes to return in the future. Making attempts to grow slowly back into DCI. Cannot return yet due to low membership numbers.

We must do do everything we can to help promote the growth of these corps. Corps from all the competitive circuits are suffering and it is up to us to help them out. If you know someone who wants to march, please encourage them to do so. Make small financial donations whenever possible to help ensure the longetiviry of these corps.

In the poll above, please vote for the way that plan to help/support drum corps.

Can you expand on this, as  I'm not getting the connection at all between the two at the moment.

Teal Sound wants to return back to DCI. However, because of what happened with YEA, they feel that now is not the time to return because the atmosphere is very unstable. Besides the issues of finances and recruiting, they feel that they could be subject to poor choices being made by poor leadership.

Some may very well want to do 2 or more, but the poll question format, only allows 1 choice... oh well.

I don't believe that Teal Sound could come back to World Class Division level competition howeveer, even if they wanted too. They'd have to show sufficient finances in place to secure the votes from DCI to do so, even if they could establish that they had sufficiently qualified leadership in place now to replace the prior leadership of the Corps that let them down and resulted in the Corps folding. Not sure where they'd get better funding revenue streams than what failed them in rather quick order before either.... and this is all before anything at YEA happened too.

When I talked to Teal Sound, the were vague on many details. However, they were clear on the fact that they want to return. The chances of that happening, however, is something that is hard to predict.

Racine Scouts competed with " low numbers" for well over a decade. So getting back to such numbers needed to go out and compete, should not be too difficult for them at all, imo. I wish them success in getting those numbers back in order to come back to Open Class., if not to Soundsport Div. level numbers. That should not be too difficult to accomplish, imo if their hopes are strong enough, and their goals/ funding sources are realistic.

I wish they would come back too. Like you said, they are successful even with the smallest amount of members. Same thing applies to Blue Saints and Les Stentors.

Glassmen apparently have no desire to return. Their bingo revenues dried up when local casino competition came their way, and thus they feel its impossible to attempt any return.
