Show Announcement Delays

June of 1975 at some high school field in the greater Boston area at a CYO Circuit show is when I first saw a live drum corps show. Of course that was prior to show themes and as a young kid who was about to finish 6th grade, show themes would have gone above my head. I just loved the experience. That has not changed, and while show themes are interesting and can entice me, they are rarely what I expect, more often than not I am pleasantly surprised, so if I hear about a show announcement, great. If I don’t, no big deal. I’ll still be in the stands and have a great time.

I think it’s more fun to not know.

Many reasons; but one voiced to me by a staffer a while back:  it adds nothing to the development of the program and starts non useful chatter.

These music educators are great at what the do, but don't have the first clue how to drive sales or market themselves properly...sans perhaps a VERY SELECT few...

I think the most spectacular example of keeping a show theme under wraps and absolutely wowing fans on opening night in Indy was the 2016 Bluecoats.  I had no idea what they were going to do and it was about the most fun I’ve ever had watching a show.  I said to Jim nobody is beating that.  I think BD did a couple of times but they won on the last night.

I don't mind not knowing, but I wish we got more teasers or clips. Copyrights aren't stopping corps from announcing their theme at the very least this late into the year.

I think it’s fun trying to guess, but I know some don’t.

Sorry to be a pain but you are wrong. Back in at least the late 80s 90s the April edition of  DCI today  newspaper listed most corps programs and the musical selections they were presenting as well.  Also, some corps presented their entire programs at indoor stage shows as early as mid April ( remember serenade and brass in Harrisburg?  ) the cadets and Crossmen  used to present most of their show  if not the entire show memorial day weekend.   The  cadets and blue Devils used to release a CD of their shows  preseason. I am sure copyright issues prevent some of the announcements but I have no doubt corps are just playing games and waiting for no real substantial reason other then they don't want to let the  cat out of the bag.  We just have to wait… :/

You are not a pain, but I am not wrong.  BITD would be for me, pre late 80's and 90's. LOL.  The season would start as early as Memorial weekend or earlier. You rehearsed all winter, no camps really and not much interstate MM's. The bam the season began with more local shows. Some standstills like Drumfest.  So no themes no announcements.  We all survived and continue to go to shows today.

Heck, we didn’t even know what was happening on the coasts until we got Drum Corps News or Drum Corps America.  Drum Corps World was established at the end of my marching juniors days.

I enjoy the Sweet Taste of Anticipation. My guess is a good number of Corps may have released " Show Themes for "INTERNAL" use only. There is much to be said to having an "Element of Surprise."  Wishing all another Great Year to DCI and all participating Corps and SoundSport Teams.  ENJOY!.

I dunno, but it's really bugging me. How am I supposed to get hyped over nothing?

The fact that they actually released more information regarding the Star Wars films then drum corps do their programs is absurd right LOL
