I believe Bruckner's assertion was more along the lines that a corps hasn't won their 1st championship without first "earning it" by demonstrating "worthiness" through placing in the top three before being "allowed" to win.

Ahhh. I always have a hard time understanding Bruckner's theorems. I am not the brightest bulb on the string <sigh>. Although other plausible excuses include short attention span, or I really just don't care.

But if it is, that means that for 37 of its 46 seasons, Bruckner is right. Pretty good odds there. Although I've been corrected that this theory applies only to FIRST TIME champions. So therefore, for example, the theory tells us that the Boston Crusaders cannot win this season. Edited June 5, 2018 by HockeyDad

Yes, it only applies to 1st time champs ... so it is correct for all of the championships (except maybe for the first). Yes, it predicts that BC must "make the top 3 first" before they can win, if the theory is correct. But, its a theory and able to be disproved. And maybe BC can do this. craiga
Conventional wisdom last year at this time also held that Boston might go from 12th to 8th or 9th at best. And, I don't believe anyone had suggested the guard would go from 14th to 3rd in one season.

So 2nd to 3rd isnt a stretch.
