Most corps have props anymore and while effective (I enjoy many of them frankly - it adds variety to our performance theater/setting) they do sometimes become quite time consuming - even in regards to rehearsal for each rep (moving back) and daily construction and breakdown (2 times per day on show days) Feeling slightly out of place here but like it or not George Hopkins mentioned at the end of last season that the prop thing has to change because he felt the members were spending way too much time dealing with them so at least he was right about that One

FTNK
Marched a show with a ton of props. It sucked. Color guard spent literally every minite of rehearsal (it seemed) trying to get them to work. In 2005 we only had one big moveable prop but it also sucked and looked like crap. I don’t dislike watching shows with props, but I do wonder if the experience of marching one is less good than one without, and many props are not worth the effort. I do hate that they are a required element now, like electronics and insipid brass scale features. 1

They were so heavy that 200 lb men had trouble pushing them around, and here’s 100 lb girls doing that. Plus, on the bottom they had grocery cart wheels on them that went in every which direction. Engineering flaw.

Being literal for a moment, props are not required, but you're obviously stating that corps feel like they have to have them in order to keep up with the Joneses. Plus, corps with props probably get scored better than corps without any.
