Aug. 4: March of Champions & Drum Corps Luau

Recommended Posts

Two shows tomorrow. I'll be at neither, but I will get to see Columbus Saints, who are performing (in exhibition?) at the DCI show in Avon Lake (OH).

If you're going to be at either of these shows, tell us about them!

[1] "March of Champions", with these corps competing:

--Hurricanes

--Sunrisers

--Bushwackers

--Fusion Core

--White Sabers

--Caballeros

Location: Dietz Stadium, 170 North Front Street, Kingston, NY

[2] "Drum Corps Luau", with these corps competing:

--Govenaires

--Chops Inc.

Location: Brooklyn Center H.S., 6500 Humboldt Ave. N, Brooklyn Center, MN

http://dcacorps.org/event/drum-corps-luau/

There are some additional exhibition performances scheduled for both events.

(DCP's post-tag system needs some updates. For example, there is no tag for Chops.)

Sabers were first in Brass and Music Effect, and second in everything else.

Caballeros were first in Visual Ensemble, Percussion, Music Ensemble, and Visual Effect; second in Brass and Music Effect, but fourth in Guard.

Fusion took Guard.

Wow and great for White Sabers. Still remember being at same hotel with them for two years at Rochester when they couldn’t make Finals. One year my wife and I stood in the parking lot with the corps as they got the equipment out and played the show one last time for each other. The other year we just missed the final music run thru. Always thought that was a great thing and showed the corps stuck together as they were working their way up. Congratulations

Actually, they won Kingston last year.  I remember blogging out about seeing them warmup, looking strong, and the the victory concert was great. That nite was an arrival.  Inside their corps there's probaby other perspective.

Last year Fusion 2nd, Cabs 3rd.  And 4-5 Bush-Sun as this year.

Some perennial competition here folks.

Thanks for the correction.

Winning DCA contests are great for morale and confidence for a corps like the Sabers. They're putting themselves in a solid position, though it looks like the 2-6 zone will be a serious dogfight all the way through finals. If C2 and CV can drive hard... wow. Things could be open all the way from 1-6.

Just may move my schedule so I can also watch (and order) Finals as getting interesting. Lol hold off any birthday stuff people want to do and just have it at my place. Ground rules are you can stay and watch but only talk between corps
