Do corps with operations in same location as their name have an advantage

Some cities haven't always been so friendly to corps just because they are based there.  I can think of one corps in particular. It also applies to several others.

Agreed... but I think the flip side is also true.

Corps need to reach out and become good community citizens... and be more than just an "in name only" organization. I'm sure some corps do this better than others.

If not... then why should any community bother with a corps who doesn't bother with the community?

As a Scouts fan I wonder if this is true....although they are the Madison Scouts, their travel and practice hub is Indy,  much recruiting is TX.  Do drum corps that reside, recruit and practice in same locale as their name have an advantage?

Honestly if needed they could change to "The Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps" and be just FINE. Worked for "The Cadets"

Setting aside the name, I think it probably helps any organization of this size to have a place that they can call home where, as Fran says, they can make connections with the community.

I do think the Boston Crusaders calling Boston their " home base " does have some advantages to them. Especially in fundraising efforts. Boston, the City, does have Corporations in its Financial District, that were always available as an untapped resource for the Corps, but were never really optimally taken advantage of, until fairly recently, imo. On the other hand, Boston has to be creative too in its outreach to prospective marchers for its Corps, as the Marching Band programs in New England ( colder weather in Fall/ Spring ) is not as strong on the whole as in some other regions of the Country. So Boston does have to be attractive as a Corps destination for marchers throughout a much broader geographical reach than just its home base in order to remain competitively vital and strong.
