2019 what corps will wear

You know something, these new uniforms,.or costumes, or whatever, every year something new, that's expensive. Right now with the economy humming along and donations up, corps can afford to try out new expensive ideas when they really couldn't before.

With Guardians actually, our digitally printed gear ends up costing way less than a "traditional" uniform.  (And honestly, our previous band-type uniforms are in such poor condition now we're just giving them away.)  The cost difference really is dramatic in favor of the single-use items, and I can imagine the bigger corps likely getting a better per-unit price break due to their status.

I'd like to see Cadets in a more athletic M&G uniform.

Edit:  posted in jest, but to be honest, layer that over cream pants, and do some sort of collegiate/athletic retro show ... wouldn't look bad.

On the bright side, everyone carried their uniforms in backpacks.  No garment bags, no storage needed.  (The jackets/hoodies were a similar material to soccer jerseys, and amazingly wrinkle-resistant.)

On the other hand, kids kept losing their hats, as baseball caps don't need hat boxes.  We had to replace roughly 10% of them Finals week.

Hats?  How retro.

Blue Stars was allowing members to buy this year’s uniform if they wanted.  That is definitely a one-and-done.

isn't that covered in the uniform allowance at Lowe's and Home Depot?

Does anyone have a photo of Blue Stars great moment at Atlanta Regional?  The spectatron was above the corps at the back 50; Home Depot had a frequent advertisement of their name and when the Blue Stars entered the field (and ended their program later) it was quite the memorable photo op. Home Depot-Blue Stars-Home Depot. Quite the souvenir.

The souvie booth should definitely sell these; I'm sure many would buy for those Northern winters. NJhundred?  Calling NJhundred.

At this point, I’m no longer concerned about what each corps will wear next year. The spandex/costume trend will only continue as long as it keeps the sponsors making money and happy.

What I’m more concerned about is the spandex trend, already popular in DCI and standard in WGI, bleeding into fall marching band. How will band directors, particularly those that participate in BOA regularly (where GE is king), handle the continuing reach of spandex? If it does catch on, in which geographical areas will they be most popular? What about problems such as body comfort and parent/guardian reactions? Will the kids who passionately follow the marching arts be disillusioned by the growing homogenization of the activity they love, just as many of their elders who marched in the past do?

I bet we will see the answers to these questions come about within the next few years, with many having short-term answers as the fall progresses.

Yes, dealing with the "Spirit of Atlanta" spandex situation is certainly a concern at high school age. Kids should not be embarrassed by what some designer says they have to wear.

Weather is definitely a factor as Northern regions always have to consider how many thermo sets of woolies and sweaters can be worn under the uni due to the winterish wet weather arriving as early as late September in Mountain States and late October for the rest. With Syracuse, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Atlanta, and Indy among the few domed band contests, what goes on for St. Pete doesn't hold a snowball chance for the rest of the nation.
