Senators, UK to support Gwen Stefani

Recommended Posts

Members of the Senators Drum and Bugle Corps from Eastleigh, Hampshire, England will be taken on the celebrity trip of a lifetime this weekend as they go on tour supporting Pop superstar Gwen Stefani.

Six members of the corps, accompanied by Director Joe Fitzpatrick and Percussion Head John McNamara, will be backing Gwen as she promotes her new single "Hollerback Girl" in the UK, the video of which features marching bands and cheerleaders. The tour will involve performing on TV to a prime time audience of millions.

As an added interest to US Drum Corps, appearing with the Senators as a guest performer will be Cavaliers tenor player Ben Collins, who is over in England studying at Manchester University.

The trip begins today (Thursday) in London as the corps members rehearse 10am-10pm with Gwen Stefani and her dancers to get their performance right - the Senators members will appear in full uniform with Brass and Percussion instruments. They will then live the Rock and Roll lifestyle stay in a Central London apartment before Friday sees them rehearsing and recording Top of the Pops which is broadcast later that evening.

After another night in the apartment, an early start will see the corps recording a performance for CDUK for ITV and then Popworld for Channel 4.

Once the TV appearances are over, the Senators members will get on the Gwen Stefani tour bus and travel to Sunderland where, after staying in a celebrity studded hotel, they will be performing on the main stage on Radio 1's "One Big Weekend" in front of 20,000 people.

After another night in the hotel, the tired members will then be flown back to Southampton Airport on Monday.

This amazing performance opportunity is just the latest in this year's celebrity appearances which included the brass appearing in Keane's video "This is the last time" and the drums being featured a few weeks ago with Will Smith on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night takeaway.

"It's great to get the opportunity to perform in these high profile events," says Director Joe Fitzpatrick, "Not only for the members that get the experience of a lifetime, but it gets our activity on national, primetime TV, which raises our public profile and helps all marching bands and drum corps in the UK."

The Senators Web Site www.senators.org.uk will be trying to keep everyone updated with progress over the next few days with pictures where possible, together with follow ups and full reports next week.

it is no wonder mate that DCUK has lost most corps in the past 5 years then John Boyington lost in all his years of service, great job Joe making sure you are taking care of DCUK as a whole, (** EXPLETIVE REMOVED BY OldAgeOut **)

OMG! That's awesome. How can you level that at DCUK?

Corps have folded because they've lost members through lack of interest. it's heppening worldwide? How can that be dcuks fault? and How could dcuk have stopped senator getting this gig? or even given it to them?

other groups need to get out and do more. if they are folding becuase they cannot win in dcuk cos of senators/cadence then they need to rehearse more!

european mainland corps do a LOT of public/commercial stuff, not on this level maybe but they go out and get the stuff themselves that hasn;t even been a DCH for years, so how could DCUK have helped you?

i guess you have a personal problem here?

How is this DCUK's fault? I am a DCUK A Class corps staffer and we are doing just fine thank you.

If corps would quit folding for stupid reasons, THAT would help.

So lets use the example of a corps that we shall leave nameless. They dont actively recruit. Their older members just keep getting older and rather than bring the younger ones up through the ranks from their cadet corps, the Open Class corps gets smaller and smaller to the point where it is no longer viable to field them. So what do they do?

Fold.

Bad decision. Bad for the corps and bad for the DCUKactivity as a whole, but I still fail to see how this is in any way the fault of DCUK!

Do YOU know John Boyington? What exactly have YOU done to make the activity stronger today? Rather than call someone childish names and levy blame at a blameless organisation, why dont YOU get off your rear end and DO SOMETHING about it!

Is this a dig at Cadence?

Yes, it is in reference to Cadence, and, NO it is not intended as a "dig". Whilst I personally (note: this is NOT necessarily the opinion of my corps) disagree with the reason that Cadence has decided to go inactive, I was trying to illustrate that what happened with Cadence is in no way the fault of DCUK.

Blaming DCUK, DCI or DCWhoever for the demise of individual corps is in more cases than not, simply ridiculous and uninformed.

So is that why Cadence still has two cadet units who are both registered members of DCUK???

Where did you see that Cadence had "folded"?

Or was this just more miss information from someone else that claim that they know the inner workings of my corps?
