I actually addressed these concerns with Dave Gibbs (via the Blue Devils website, of course...I don't "know" him or anything like that).  He stated that the organization learned a lot from their Europe trip in 2000 regarding the balance of rehearsal time and sightseeing, as well as jet lag, lack of DCI judge commentary, etc., and that they feel very confident in their ability to come back and still be very competitive.  It certainly helps that when they come back, they still have Kalamazoo, San Antonio, Murfreesboro, Indianapolis and Allentown (at the minimum) where they will have access to the same judges that the other corps do and get great feedback well before Finals.  I think that they will do very well.

However, with that said, I just have this "feeling" that they will end up 3rd.  Before anyone jumps on me, this "feeling" is based solely on a historical perspective.  In years that end in 5 they never place better than 3rd.  Take a look:

1975- 3rd

1985- 3rd

1995- 3rd

2005- ???

So what will happen if the Devils land up in 1st or 2nd? Will the Earth stop spinning?

Proves NOTHING.

Obviously this doesn't actually guarantee anything, but it's something I couldn't help but notice at the beginning of the year.

You need to separate my quote from your comments by using the

signs. It took me a couple reads before I figured out that you had added commentary.

But as a response to you...no, I'm not insinuating that the universe will come unglued if the Blue Devils finish 1st, 2nd, 4th, or lower. As I stated (and put my own disclaimer on), it was just something I couldn't help but notice. Take it easy and read my entire post, incuding the disclaimer which is directly unerneath your "Proves Nothing" comment.

Actually, I was going to bring that up, but the response I got from the first one made me a little cautious....

For those that are wondering what we're talking about..

1975- 3rd

1985- 3rd

1995- 3rd

2005- ???

1976- 1st

1986- 1st

1996- 1st

2006- ???

As another fun factoid, 2006 will be the 20-year anniversary of the Blue Devils' triumph in Madison, and guess where Finals are next year?? :P

Once again...does this ACTUALLY mean anything? No. But it's fun to look at nonetheless.

I travel to Europe alot, one big concern. 135 KIDS AND JETLAG!  It takes about a week traveling back from France to DC. I hope they'll be OK. They've been in Europe a long time.

Are you kidding? Jet lag is nothing. When I traveled to London (and stayed there 2 weeks no less) it didn't take me long to readjust at all, neither for anyone else that was with me. So yeah, I doubt jet lag is the highest of BD's concerns. I think THAT would be Madison and Garfield :P

Madison seemed to survive their Europe trip in '88 ...

B)

Blue Devils have to be coming back soon......... There like smack in the middle of the standings, there last real DCI show was 6/18, and most of the corps cavs, cadets, etc. hav had their scores from like 7/9.

"Standings?" Yeah ... that really matters in an activity like drum corps ...

Kdaddy, if fund raising was only equal throughout the country.  Most corps rely on BINGO to make money.  BD, SCV and a few of the other BIG California corps have great BINGO games.  Competition is the key when it comes to BINGO.  Madison a few years ago had no competition for BINGO in that area.  In moved the Indians and Madison's BINGO suffered greatly.

The big BINGO games can hand out prizes well over $5000 or $10000 since they may have 500 to 1000 people playing in one night.  Small BINGO ops like Madison's was MAX maybe 100 to 150 people playing a night.

I don't know how Crossmen raise money but I'm sure if they're gaming, they've got tons of competition.

The Indian Casinos are messing with SCV's bingo, too. Pretty sad. :(
