Actually, I was going to bring that up, but the response I got from the first one made me a little cautious....

For those that are wondering what we're talking about..

1975- 3rd

1985- 3rd

1995- 3rd

2005- ???

1976- 1st

1986- 1st

1996- 1st

2006- ???

As another fun factoid, 2006 will be the 20-year anniversary of the Blue Devils' triumph in Madison, and guess where Finals are next year?? :P

Once again...does this ACTUALLY mean anything? No.  But it's fun to look at nonetheless.

Thanks for the fun trivia type stuff...Not a huge bd fan (wonder why? lol), but I love stuff like this.

Thanks again!

I travel to Europe alot, one big concern. 135 KIDS AND JETLAG!  It takes about a week traveling back from France to DC. I hope they'll be OK. They've been in Europe a long time.

The whole summer on tour is like jetlag! They will be fine.

The Indian Casinos are messing with SCV's bingo, too. Pretty sad. sad.gif

Did SCV even send anybody to the Townhall meeting in San Pablo to discuss Indian Bingo there? I know there was an effort to get somebody up there. BD had some people there (including me).

Re jet lag....I remember when I was in the Air Force and was sent TDY (temporary duty) to England...I flew from California, where I'd been home on leave, had 1 day to unpackl the civvies and repack for my TDY, and off to the other side of the Pond.

Going West to East is the hard part...going East to West presented no problem.

BD'll be fine...

Bd will do as BD needs to do. The first show is critical - judges will over react, or under react - but they will react.

Judges and fans galore will be keep their cells phones and laptops busy. It will take 4 or 5 shows with different slates of judges to be able to grasp what BD is doing - unless it is simply phenominal.

BD does have some time to polish, or fix whatever is deemed necessary. Afterall, we are talking about the Blue Devils.

"European Vacation":

I believe that in 1988 the Madison Scouts took a European Vacation (Tour), returned to the United States in mid season and went on to win Nationals. History may very well repeat itself.

I dunno about ya'll, but after many "listenings" to BD's Pleasant Hill APD this year......that lick right at the :53 second mark is just amazing.  WOW!  I love this show!  <sans yowserman>

I agree, that lick is very well done and pure jazz. I also really like the licks from 3:03 to 3:13 of that APD. Dang, they were clean for a first showing/recording.

And for the most part, I can enjoy the narration...after listening several times, the only parts I would love to see removed are the comment about "Don't forget to write your dear old mother, yowza, yowza, yowza.." (Doesn't seem to make much sense for the show concept) and the very end when he is counting off all twenty couples (It just seems to take too long and makes me feel a little like they don't think we can count). As for the last part, I'm sure that when the dance derbies actually took place they did this and paused so that each couple could get a little congratulatory applause. In a drum corps show, because of time contraints, it just doesn't have the same flow. It seems somehow rushed and overdrawn at the same time...

Anyway, back on your topic...that hornline is awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing it in San Antonio.

A thought: with BD in Europe, how much constructive feedback on their show do you think they've received to this point?  Not that European judges can't provide feedback or anything, but it's conceivable that they have a different conception of corps than that possessed by North American judges.  Plus, if BD is heads and tails above the competition (I have no idea if they are or not), are the judges more likely to be all Duckies and Bunnies with them instead of providing constructive criticism?  The essence of my point is that the corps that have remained stateside have been tweaking their shows for weeks, and I wonder if BD will have to put their show modifications on the fast track.

Would have been interesting if they lost a couple of shows in Europe because their show design was too different from what the judges look for over there. If that had happened, and BD comes home and wins out the remainder of the DCI season, would they still be able to claim an undefeated season?

Well, in this activity, I believe it ACTUALLY means something. Maybe not the years in "5" thing, but I'm convinced that BD will more than likely win in '06. I certainly wouldn't expect every corps to "roll over and play dead", but this activity has always "hyped" on traditions and anniversaries. From the standpoint of winning, I can certainly attest having the Cadets turn 50 in '84 had a LOT to do with our 2nd place finish. People get those "warm and fuzzy" feelings when anniversary years roll around. Granted, the Cadets in many people's opinion were great, but they WERE beaten by our corps in Landsdale, PA on the last show of the regular season prior to championship week. If it had been #49 or #51 for the Cadets, I'm fairly certain I'd have 2 rings rather than the one. We really "peaked" at the right time with the '84 BD corps. It was the added "edge" that the Cadets needed to put them over the top. Lets face it, .1 is not a large margin of victory. Being 50 carries some weight. I don't think it's something people put a lot of thought into, but it's something in their minds. Given all things in the history of DCI, BD will have that "6" hype working-and so will the fans!

Erron - are you starting the rumor - right here on DCP - that BD is playing Channel One Suite, Legend of a One Eyed Sailor & Chase the Clouds Away again in 2006? :worthy:
