DRCman Posted August 8, 2005 Share Posted August 8, 2005 For those of you that think that DCA finals should be expanded to 12 corps: aside from the logistical problems involved, I would like to think that the activity is finally getting to what it should be: a showcase of the finest all-age (pardon the PC) corps in the world...It should be an HONOR to get to finals, and those who do will know they got there by being very good. Right now we have about 6 to 8 corps that can really fight it out, and 2 that are not really in the championship race. Expanding DCA to 12 corps will not improve this picture. I know that many of you want to see your favorite corps in finals, but thats what the championships are all about; separating the best from the rest, so to speak. Preserving DCA finals at 10 open class corps will continue to award those who truly deserve to be there, and provide an example to those that want to be in the future. Show me 10 or more DCA corps marching 100+ members, and then maybe we can talk 12 finalists..... Bill <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I agree. But I feel bad for the corps that make such a long haul... E-mails and posts Have no emotion except the emoticons (open to interpretation) I did not call you a bad guy, I only meant to convey that the rest are never out...true in your analysis they are ..then asscociates or whatever and true top ten is the goal...I was just trying to say that they are not out as in done , over , kaput, which is what your message conveyed to me at the time...sorry.. no disrespect meant...not wanting to get in to a pissing match with anyone,,,, interpretation is not just for the Judges I guess. Anyway I respect or try to everyone participating in the activity and I am assuming that you do as well...so end of story ....have a nice day!!! Randy Billings Posted August 9, 2005 Share Posted August 9, 2005 We all know the risks we took when we declaired Open Class. Reality is DCA will not open it up to the top 12 for finals night. Why? Because they have clairifired from the get go 10 will only be going on Sunday night. Also the three top A class corps. This is what a championship show should be. I truly wish I had a 100+ drumcorps and im sure there are many out there that feel the same way. Sometimes it's not in the card no matter how hard you try. Grenadiers are going to do there best to go out and perform and make the Sunday night show, and if we don't then we will be watching 10 other corps that where seen to be better than us. I also think that getting a corps to finals is victory in itself, big or small, open or A-Class, Alumni or mini-corps we are an activity thats one of a kind, a "family" thats what Finals are about to Grenadiers so no matter what we all win. You dont have to have nearly that number to put on a good, quality, musical show for the audience! Isnt that what going to a contest is all about, to watch a good show and enjoy yourself? Coming from a corps who are one of the "2 that are not really in the championship race", yea thats true that due to a limited number of performers and things of such, no we will not win, but we will give you our best, a fun show and are still proudly up and coming in the DCA ranks. But part of finals is showcasing the best of what is out there in all areas, unique shows ideas / aspects or other entertainment value. But even then many of these shows that are out there are not rewarded with the chance to show off. Bill <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes and no...corps w/less than 100 members have won DCA. what it is isthat to do this now, totally kills Class A and makes them look like D2/3 in DCI, the ######## forgotten step children. Class A is the biggest growing portion of DCA....Open classhas what, maybe 16 corps? you take 12 and you're like the NHL playoffs, anyone above 40% gets in. if anything, class A should get an extra body or 2 added onto Sunday night Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I remember the first Class A finals...3 whole corps.
