BOSMarcher
I LOVE the sound that Crown is producing! It is beautiful... and I am very picky. I remember sitting at Murfreesboro thinking, "wow, if this was Crown's brassline, I can't imagine how good the other lines will be!" Unfortunately, I did not hear much improvement with brass lines like BD and Bluecoats. I thought Crown's sound was better, though their books were more difficult. MiamiSun76
I have the feeling that the MiamiSun76 may not have seen these corps all season long, thus not mentioning them with Xmen and Magic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Partly true. I did see Spirit, Glassmen and Magic early in Orlando and Crossmen at their concert (which is a poor comparison, I know). So while I've seen all of the corps you mentioned (except for the Colts) I only had single data points on some. Hope that's sufficient truth in advertising. mdsnsctfan
I agree that the Colts, Glassmen, and Spirit have definitely cleaned their shows, as well as all of the other corps. I have the feeling that the MiamiSun76 may not have seen these corps all season long, thus not mentioning them with Xmen and Magic. One thing that is noticeable is that there have been more postings this year regarding Xmen not making finals since they have been in the 13th/14th position much of the season. So with their late start, and knowing how amazing the Xmen really are, the cleaning may be alot more noticeable than other corps. Magic has also started out slow the last couple of years, and started to come out strong towards the end of the season. Whereas Colts Glassmen and Spirit have started strong this year, and have stayed more consistent. But all these corps are definitely improved over several weeks ago.And I definitely disagree with the assessment that the person who thinks this is Madison's best show is new to the activity. Everyone enjoys different things, and I myself personally love this year's show. It is in my top 5 Madison shows of all time, along with 99, 97, 95,and 88. And I could see where it could easily be someone's favorite. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not saying this years show isn't good...and I guess its all personal preference, but I would say in order of best Scout Shows... 1975 1995 1968 (much better than this years Carmen show) 1998 1997 1974 1992 1989 1981 2003 1985 2000 1996 2001 1987 then maybe another 10 Scout shows, and then 2005. only being followed by 2004. dmfootworks
You have 2003 and 1987, but 1988 or 1984?????????
MiamiSun76
I'm not saying this years show isn't good...and I guess its all personal preference... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd say personal preference is it. I've never been a big fan of the "Madison sound", but have always admired the "Madison attitude". For my tastes, the past couple of years have been about exorcising both. Again, IMHO, Carmen revives the Scouts' personality without the paint-pealing. Plus, I really like Carmen and there are so many creative licks in this show. (I could do with a little less siren - maybe cowbells (oh, that was another thread)).
MikeD
1. Crown is very good. They have one of the prettiest brass sounds around. Maybe it's the Lutheran in me talking. Love the brass sound Crown puts out. Those King horns are wonderful. 4. Carmen is the best Madison show I've ever seen. Period. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agree....I said that over on Soundmachine. Definitely my own favorite Scouts show/performance. Mike
