elphaba01
"What to do": Sad, very sad. There was a "Time", in a drum corps galaxay "Far away" when this period of time would have been considered "Mid Season" for the junior corps (Of which there were then far more than there are now). "Nationals" (There were several to choose from, VFW, Legion, CYO, Lions) being over, there were still State, Circuit and regional titles to vie for as well as a late season "Dream" Championship to either compete in or observe. When DCA came along with their first title show, we had an September senior Championship. I remember several "Circuits" closing out their season with a field Championship as late as October. We didn't ask ourselves "What do we do now" in the middle of August. We got on with the rest of the season. Here is a sample: 1 October 1961 Waterbury Ct. 1. 88.78 St Kevins Emerald Knights 2. 86.15 St Catherines Queensmen 3. 85.00 St Marys Cardinals 4. 84.76 Selden Cadets 5. 83.99 St Marys Majestic Knights 6. 83.62 St Rose Scarlet Lancers 7. 82.62 South Boston Gatesmen 8. 80.59 Floyd Bennet Golden Eagles 9. 79.47 Audubon Bon Bons 10.76.02 Braintree Warriors Elphaba WWW Edited August 24, 2005 by elphaba01
