RobH
I can't help but feeling sad, and angry at the same time, seeing this great compilation of corps from the past who are all now gone, and likely never to return. Here's one nobody's posted yet: Racine Kiltie Kadets!! And ALL feeder corps from the past who are no longer with us.
Jpn
"Midwest Hall of Fame" (see earlier post) Well, the "Midwest" is really a state of mind, and not a place (listen to, say, Arnold Lloyd Webber's "Song & Dance" for some insight) Actually, the past corps that I listed were all major competitors on the Midwest Circuit in the late 1950s (in addition to Madison, Cavaliers, Racine Scouts, and a few others including PSH). So, why include the Preston Scout House? PSH was, in my opinion, the first travelling corps. That honor is usually given to the Troopers, but I think Preston really should be given the title. The Midwest Circuit was roughly Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, UP of Michigan, and western edge of Minnesota. We rarely travalled outside that area, except for AL and VFW Nationals. Preston often competed in the Midwest and parts of the East. The "guys in short shorts" were a truly innovative corps. By the way, someone from the UP is called a "Uper" (pronounced "You-per").
