I just did a quick perusal of DCP and didn't see this announced. Up on the World of Pageantry board it was announced just now that Alfred Reed has passed away yesterday. Sad day...

It is truly a sad day for music. Alfred Reed is and will continue to be my favorite composer for wind ensemble. :(

my roommate and i are shocked and sad :( she's music business, and he basically started the program here...

he lived just a few blocks from campus and was due to guest conduct a piece at the symphonic band concert in november, also.

The music world lost a great man. Frederick Fennel (sp?) last year, now Reed this year. :(

I was a punk 18 year old when Alfred Reed was a guest conductor of my concert band at CMSU.

I asked him about Drum Corps playing his music, and he spent 5 minutes telling me about working with Phantom in '84.

A class guy, and a great composer. RIP.
