Chris Green

Chris Green is Founder and Executive Director of Frontier and returns in his second year as brass caption head. As a drum corps performer, Chris marched 4 years with perennial DCI finalist, Carolina Crown. He has also worked with several DCI, DCA and international drum and bugle corps including the Blue Stars, Carolina Gold, and 37th Kingswood. Chris holds a BA in Music Composition from Gardner-Webb University. In addition to drum corps, Chris has used his talents to work with several world-class choral, brass and theater groups. Chris also heads up the Frontier Performing Arts Association while remaining active as a composer, clinician, conductor, and adjudicator. Outside of Frontier, Chris has helped launch 16 other non-profit performing arts groups, including several drum and bugle corps.

Chuck Naffier

Frontier is pleased to announce the addition of Chuck Naffier as Brass Arranger to the 2006 design staff. Chuck brings a wealth of drum corps experience to the corps. Chuck marched with the Colts drum and bugle corps from 1980 through 1984 as lead soprano and soloist. After aging out, he served on the Colts brass staff for 3 years before joining the Quad City Knights where he developed his arranging skills under Larry Kerchner. Chuck returned to the Colts from 1990-1999, serving a brass arranger, brass caption head, and program coordinator, before joining the Crossmen from 2000-2003 as brass arranger and music coordinator. Chuck has also worked with the Bushwackers, Teal Sound, East Coast Jazz, and the Troopers. He has been a freelance music arranger since 1990, writing for dozens of high schools, colleges and professional groups including the Fort Collins Symphony, U.S. Naval Academy, Denver Brass, University of Nebraska, Evansville University and Colorado State University. In addition to arranging for Frontier this season, Chuck will be returning to the Crossmen as music coordinator for 2006.

John Czerwieski

Frontier is pleased to announce the appointment of John Czerwieski as visual caption head for the 2006 season. John was a member of the brass staff as well as a marching member of the Frontier hornline in 2005. Prior to joining Frontier, John was a member in the 1995 and 1997 Phantom Regiment hornlines, as well as a member of the visual staff for Phantom in 2002. He is also and alumnus of the Texas A&M – Commerce and Baylor University bands. While at Baylor, John was part of the undergraduate staff and was a drill designer for the 2001 season. He received his Bachelors of Music Education degree at Baylor and is currently continuing studies at UT – Arlington in pursuit of his Masters in Music Education. John is currently Assistant Band Director at South Grand Prairie HS and is a member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Texas Bandmasters Association.

Jeff Bridges

Frontier is pleased to announce the addition of long time drum corps veteran, Jeff Bridges, as drill designer for the Frontier design staff. Jeff’s drum corps career began as a baritone player with the Crossmen in 1981 and 1982. He is also an alumnus of the University of South Carolina band. Jeff brings over 20 years of significant design experience to the corps through his past work with Florida Wave, The Colts, Southwind, Spirit, Crossmen, Kiwanis Kavaliers, the Troopers and Taipei Yiuphu drum and bugle corps. Jeff also served as Director of the Crossmen for the 2000 and 2001 seasons, leading them to DCI finals both seasons. Jeff has been instructor and clinician to multiple high school bands across the southeastern United States.

Jeff Nelson

Jeff Nelson is returning in his second year as caption head and arranger for the Frontier drumline, and will be adding the title of Assistant Corps Director in 2006. Jeff is a ten-year veteran of drum corps, including 4 years on the snare line with the Spirit of Atlanta and the Blue Devils in the early 80’s, where he was drumline section leader for both corps. Upon aging out, Jeff was honored to then join the Blue Devils percussion staff. During his years with Spirit and the Blue Devils, Jeff took part in two DCI High Drum honors and one DCI World Championship with the undefeated 1982 Blue Devils. He is also an alumnus in the University of Kentucky drumline. Jeff has studied under and worked alongside legendary drum corps veterans Tom and Katherine Float, Scott Johnson, and Mike Back. Jeff is currently a member of PAS (Percussive Arts Society) and has worked as a clinician for multiple high school drumlines across the US and Canada.

Gary Westbrook, PhD

Frontier is pleased to add Dr. Gary Westbrook as front ensemble arranger and consultant to the 2006 Frontier design staff. Gary is currently the Head of Music Education, Assistant Director of Bands, and Director of Percussion Studies at Louisiana Tech University with educational credentials that include a PhD and MM from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and his BM from East Carolina University. Gary has studied percussion under Harold Jones and Cort McClaren. Gary’s drum corps experience includes that as a performer in the front ensemble with the Bridgemen Drum and Bugle Corps and as arranger for Carolina Gold and Gulf Coast Sound all-age corps. He has also served as assistant tour director for both the Crossmen and the Cadets. Gary is currently an educational endorsee of Sabian Cymbals, Innovative Percussion, and Pearl/Adams. Gary actively serves as a clinician and adjudicator for bands across the country.

Kevin Jordan

Kevin was section leader of the 2005 Frontier drumline and we are pleased that he will be returning as snare tech and section leader for 2006. Kevin is currently the Director of Percussion for Rockwall High School and its feeder schools. He is a writer/arranger/clinician for schools in Iowa, Indiana, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, and Texas. As a performer, he has been a member of The Geneseo / Quad City Knights for two years and The Sky Ryders from Hutchinson KS /Desoto TX for two years, as well as being a member of the US Army band. Kevin is currently a member of PAS (Percussive Arts Society), and is endorsed by Vic Firth.

Brad Faidley

Frontier welcomes Brad Faidley to the visual staff as marching and image consultant for 2006. Brad was a part time consultant for 2005 and we are please to have him return as a full time staff member for 2006. As a performer, Brad is a four-time DCI finalist with the Sky Ryders and the Santa Clara Vanguard, including the Vanguard’s 1989 DCI World Championship production of “The Phantom of the Opera.” He has also worked on the marching staff with the Sky Ryders and instructed marching band in the Dallas area. Brad is a four-year alumnus of the marching band at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he minored in music. Brad has been educated under the likes of Tommy Keenum, Myron Rosander, Dan Dillon, Mack Dees, Rob Dunham, Rick South, and Gordon Henderson. He is also a past member of the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity.

Heather Appleby

We are pleased that Heather will be returning to Frontier in her second year as cymbal tech for the drumline as well as Staff Coordinator for the corps. Heather is a five-year drum corps veteran having played cymbals with the Sky Riders in 1991 and 1992, with the Blue Knights in 1993 and 1994 where she was part of the 2nd place cymbal line ensemble at DCI I&Es, and last year with Frontier. She has performed as cymbal section leader for three years at the University of Texas at Arlington where the cymbal line took 4th place at PASIC. Heather has served as cymbal tech for UT-Arlington, Lone Star Drum and Bugle Corps, and several high schools in the Dallas area and was a marching member of the 1988 L.D. Bell High School cymbal line which took top honors in the PASIC high school division.

Brent Unger

Frontier is happy announce the addition of Brent Unger in a dual role as High Brass Marching and Music Tech for the 2006 corps. Brent is a native of East Texas and started his drum corps career in 1988 playing mellophone with Star of Indiana under the guidance of DCI hall of famer Donnie van Doren. In addition to working as a marching band clinician and adjudicator in East and South Central Texas, he served on staff with Lone Star in 1993 and Suncoast Sound in 1995, and marched with the Bayou City Blues in Houston from 1999 to 2000. He then moved to Tennessee and continued to work as a band clinician and adjudicator. In the summer of 2003, Brent founded what is now the Music City Legend Drum & Bugle Corps, which recently took the award for best hornline at the 2005 DCA Class A finals. After five great years in Tennessee, Brent recently returned to Texas where he now resides in Austin and is an adjudicator with the Texas Educational Judges Association and the U.S. Scholastic Band Association. In addition to his duties with Frontier, he will also serve as brass consultant for Gulf Coast Sound.

Lora Lynch

Lora Lynch is returning to Frontier for her second year as Colorguard Caption Head and joins the Visual Staff as Auxiliary Designer. Lora brings over 28 years of experience as a performer, choreographer, adjudicator, clinician, and designer in the performing arts. Lora is an alumnus of the University of Texas at Arlington Marching Band where she was Colorguard Captain 4 years. As CEO and creator of The ColorGuard Connection since 1984, Lora consults and choreographs for elementary through Collegiate programs throughout the US and Canada in music, dance, and performing arts. Lora spent over 12 years on Staff with Marching Auxiliaries of America working Summer Camps, Contests, & Special Events and 2 years as the Director of “Frequency Unknown” Winterguard. She is currently Director of the newly established Independent World LEGACY (Senior) Winterguard from Dallas. Lora is currently a member of the Texas Colorguard Judges Association and has served as a judge with WGI, VFW Nationals, Southern California Color Guard Association, and the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit. In Texas, she served as the Chief Judge of the Texas Colorguard Circuit and the North Texas Colorguard Association, Executive Director and Education Coordinator of the Texas State Judges Association, and Guest Clinician with the Texas Education Colorguard Association.

Congrats to your staff! It was such a pleasure to see Jeff Nelson at DCA and seeing him at our rehearsal with some of the drumline as well! It actually made the whole DCA expereince more "awesome" than it already was for me, a first-timer! It was such a wonderful experience to march with him in '82 Devs snare line, such a talented and intense section leader! Have a great "new year" Frontier! Kelley, Renegades

Hey Kelley,

Thanks for the kind words. It was really great catching up with you, ScoJo, and Kubitz in Scranton. Can't wait til next year. I loved the Renagades show this season and can't wait to see next years version. As you can see by our staff announcements, we have some great things going on at Frontier this year and we're real excited about where we're headed.
