^OO^ ^OO^

And I just watched Quasar from the Cape Cod Regional in 1980.....lol!!! God, to watch that now, the day after our own rehearsal.... its just So much different.

Who remembers the stack of speakers in the back of the gym! It use to look like a skyline back there! I remember, my first WGI was in Nashville. I started the show about 10 feet from this huge speaker and I had no idea what the hell it was.... till our music started and I almost ####! Remember the judges ON THE FLOOR!!!! How many of them got hit during a show and how many of us tried to hit one or two....lol... I saw an instructor or runner hand back equipment... The biggest thing I noticed was the marching is so much different now then it was then. I know it sounds crazy, especially if you think of like Pride or Northern Lights or Fantasia..... but its seems more laid back now? Not that its not amazing! I think it was just so much more military and now its more fluid. I remember when winterguard really started to make big changes by adding floors and props and putting more emphasis on dance and I Hated it! I thought it was the worst thing in the world! I was one of the ones complaining that if I wanted to see a dance recital I would have gone to one... blah blah blah.... lol... and now, I make sure we have a choreographer and at least an hour or so of body work at each rehearsal .....lol... I could still do without the props, unless they're somebody elses...lol.. but it all has its place, and its all good. I think winterguard is in for another change coming up. NO, I don't know of anything... just seems like its time. First there was the very military stuff... like in the 60's, then uniforms changed a little bit, then small props came out, then the floor changed to match the show better, shows actually had a theme! No more just cutting together 4 of the designers favorites! (and not really cutting together, more like playing a little clip and leaving a small 2 or 3 second gap before the next song because thats how your tape player recorded it from the stereo!) Then more dance was added. Judging went from an M&M sheet (marching and maneuvering) to an equipment sheet and a body sheet. Alot of shows were very mellow. I know out here there were a TON of pretty shows. I think every love song and ballad was used! LOL!!! Then once in a while somebody would do something different. Music got a little faster, props got a little more interesting... Out here I've seen so far, scaffolding, a friend of mine had a guard from NY that actually built a Sphinx in the gym! That was a fun show, there was a gene popping out of a bottle that shot flags out for an exchange.... SPeaking of Exchanges!!! Good God did we do alot of those in the 80's! I wonder if they'll come back? I marched in Conquest. We did this one a for a few years. It was like a signature exchange? Anyway, the weapons laid across the 50 in opposite directions. The flags stood 4 steps from the 50 and we did a regular toss down to them. Its actually really pretty easy. My kids like to see some of the "old stuff" once in a while and of course I oblige them.....lol... So I'll try one of those exchanges and they get so friggen excited! Like its the hardest thing they've ever done! LOL!!! then I watch them do their work and I know for a fact that back in the day.... most of us would have just died if our instructor told us we were doing a 45 toss and catching it behind our back by the silk.....lol.... I think if Randy told us to do half of the stuff my kids are doing now, we would have thought he had finally cracked. But yea, I've seen a few things come back slowly from back then. Some of the work, which is fun! One of the world guards this past year did a toss that Skylarks did I think the year they did the alien show. The rifles toss and look to the back of the gym on count 2 and back to the front on 3 and catch on what ever count. When Skylarks did it the whole line did it together, one of the world guard did it one at a time but it still looked cool! I would like to see some of the old Cavies tricks on the floor again. Some of the things from the James Bond show, or West Side Story.... any of the old trick could come back. I think we may see more of that come back slowly.

OK! I've rambled for enough now. Love the youtube stuff! Thanks for that link! Really brought me back.....lol...

Now to finally get into those old photo albums of mine and get out some pictures too!!!
