thebrassshop
When the Corps switched to Bb I believe a study was done by one of the large corps and the G horns were 3db louder
Einstein On The Beach
Three decibels!? STOP THE PRESSES!!! G bugles must be brought back immediately!
Elmo Blatch
I think the easiest and cheapest way is to have two hornlines go head to head and record them. We can use the hornline for the Blue Devils and their B-flat horns and the hornline for Pioneer which still plays G bugles. sburstall
I hate to be a puddleglum, but there *might* be 1 person in every 100,000 Mythbusters viewers (if that) who care if a G bugle is louder than a Bb (besides - nothin' catchin' fire or blowin' up).Plus it's not a very challenging test to set up. All you need is a way to send air through the horn at constant speed and a sound level meter. Why don't you do the test yourself and post the results here? B) We could send a request as which give a better and/or louder explosion, G or Bb. And just for sh!ts and giggles, why not throw in a C and Eb trumpet.
