Jeff Ream Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 was Phantom spotless? no, i dont think you'll get arguments there. but, on a level not quite like 2008, did it reach people? yes, very much so. remember folks, clean does not equal enjoyable to many fans. Look at this past year...BD was so ####### clean an Army Nurse could run her white gloves over them and not find anything. but lots of people didn't enjoy it. Quote
DrinkinOuttaCups Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 (edited) I almost never watch Phantom '03, but I listen to it plenty. And when I do, it's usually on my iPod with the volume turned all the way up...not so I can listen for intonation or attacks & releases, but so I can get excited. It's the ultimate hype show for me. If, for some reason, I ever need a reminder as to why I love drum corps so much and why I do it, that's the first show I listen to. I know it's not clean and it's not perfect...but, at the same time, I don't care. Edited November 6, 2009 by Mellofone08 Quote

MikeN Posted November 6, 2009 Posted November 6, 2009 Looking at Phantom's recaps, they were essentially split b/w 4th and 5th and helped by a 2nd in Ensemble Music - 18.8 (4) GE Visual 19.2 (4) GE Music 38.0 (4) GE Total 19.0 (5) Perf Vis 18.2 (5) Ens Vis 19.0 (5) Color Guard 28.10 (5) Vis Total (/2) 19.4 (2) Ens Music 18.9 (4) Perf Brass 19.0 (5) Perf Perc 28.65 (4) Mus Total (/2) 94.75 (4) Total So, serious question - if they'd officially finished 5th, would that make it more in line for you? The Brass Guy Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) I played PR's arrangement for a high school show in 2007. Not terribly hard music by any means (except for about 45 seconds), but it was awesome to play. I still have the mello arrangement and it is truly epic. I've probably watched the show 50 times, and each time I find another visual error , but the music is adrenaline pumping. As far as I can remember phantom has always been better musically then visually. It's still one of my favorite shows though, regardless. Edited November 7, 2009 by The Brass Guy Quote

It's emotion. The reprise of Santus (often mistaken with Canon) is holy ___ amazing. Quote
Fran Haring Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 (edited) kinda like bd most years... I dunno.... I kinda like all those overrated Blue Devils shows, especially the ones that won championships when your corps did not. Fran Edited November 7, 2009 by Fran Haring Quote

I agree 100% I listen to this show every few days and it is by far my most listened to show. Not because it is the best show ever, but because of the emotions that it stirs up in me. And it is the first show that I use to introduce people to drum corps if they have never seen it before. (at least musically, visually I would choose something like Cavies 2002 or 2003) All I know, is that when I have the volume turned all the way up, the reprise still gives me goosebumps every single time. Go Phantom. Quote
