The CB! 2008 debut came off pretty well yesterday, at the Skyliners/BHOF I&E event in Garfield.

A small brass group represented the corps with 2 ensemble entries: a brand new 5-minute brass ensemble piece, "The Brass-O-Maniacs - a Cartoon Symphony", and a selection from the 2008 mini-corps show, "Hunting Wabbits". Both arrangements by Tom MacDonald.

The crowd was extremely appreciative of both tunes, and CB! earned scores of 94 and 91, respectively, for the two entries; a great start for this very early stage of the season.

Comments from the adjudicator, spectators and competitors indicated that the cartoon music was very well received; even the original piece, by Gordon Goodwin.

During the Mini-Corps segment of the show, the group returned to the stage for an encore of "Sway" (arranged by John Arietano) , and received, perhaps, our best ovation of the day.

In the solo categories; CB's Dave Sokol was the lone entry for Tuba/Contra, and he did a fine job filling the room with his monster horn, on Charles Mingis' "Good Bye, Pork Pie Hat". Good for a score of 87.

And Paul MacDonald took the Gold in a strong field of Mid-Range players with an 85, for his improv performance of BS&T's "God Bless the Child".

We were quite short-handed for the show, with lots of member conflicts on the date and no drummer available. So kudos go out to the players who made the trip, and who put a lot of work into getting the material ready in such a short time. THANKS GUYS!

The reception we received from the corps members and fans at the event was the best part of the day, and everyone should know that we all appreciated the hospitality and kind words VERY much. We can't wait to return next year!

The show was FILLED with great performances, and LOTS of fun. If you missed this one, you should make plans to get to Bayonne or Bridgeport.

THANK YOU! ... to the Skyliners Alumni and the BHOF for hosting the event and allowing us to take part.

Oh... and,

MCA ROCKS!

Great job yesterday CB! You WOW'ed the crowd with your "Show's". Yes, I said shows as CB performed two completely different shows.

They were then mistakenly entered into the Mini Corps division. Even though they had no drummer and only 7 perfrormers, they played a beutiful version of "Sway" and the fans were loving it. Great job guys.

Tom ... Capital Brass definitely showed the crowd what quality, versatility and GE is all about ... I was VERY impressed with your THREE performances (all different) and ability to annouce yourself as you were gasping for air.

Sky's Alumni and the BHOF partnered in this venture and you guys made it a success ... building this new wave I&E circuit is a challenging task but, having groups like yours in the fold can only mean success for upcoming shows in Bayonne and Bridgeport.

I won't be in Bayonne (guess they have their own MC ... sniff ... sniff) ... BUT ... I'll definitely see you in Bridgeport and anxiously await seeing and hearing your full mini-corps contingent.

Thanks for "playing along" with me as we both tried to entertain the crowd ... you with your music ... and me with my words ...

All the best,

Andy "Your friendly I&E MC" Lisko

Thanks Andy!!!!

Ruben's "every-song-I-ever-played" overtime performance, and your ad lib jibes between his spot and ours, really set us up perfectly, for our cartoon piece.

We were still laughing about it hours later.

Thanks for being such a good-natured (and hilarious) Host and MC.

We all had a great time!

PS. I totally forgot to mention...

Special thanks to CB! Charter Member Mike Gottier, who came in from PA to perform with us on baritone. He prepared his part on his own, and never ensembled the two brand-new tunes with the group until an hour or so before showtime. Considering all the individual responsibility involved in the parts, and less then 2 weeks to work on them, it was no small feat to jump in like that. Great Job, Mike!!!!.
