MCA Public Relations Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) MCA member, Capital Brass! was in the house. And I expect that a few more MCA corps' will represent, at the Bayonne and Bridgeport I&E shows, in March. Edited February 24, 2008 by MCA Public Relations Quote
brassomaniac Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) Hows about some mini corps/ensemble scores and reviews? I think that everyone got a sheet, but I understand that only CB! was officially entered, in ensemble competition. We received a 91 for "Hunting Wabbits"; a selection from our 2008 mini-corps show. And a 94, for a full 5-minute presentation (BHOF time limit) of "The Brass-O-Maniacs". In the Mini-corps slot, we had an impromptu performance oF "Sway", from our 2007 show. Hadn't touched this since mid-January (not even at the show site) , so we were pretty pleased that it came off as well as it did with 7 horns and no drums. Although we were only a last-minute exhibition, we got a sheet on this as well, and the judge scored it an 88. I didn't get to see the whole show, but Seldon Cadets, St. Rita's and Sky Alumni all had complete, entertaining, and well-prepared shows. I only got to hear The Romeos from the hallway, but it seemed like they had the crowd in the palm of their hands the whole time. All of this in FEBRUARY!!!! Maybe the BHOF has recaps? ajlisko Posted February 24, 2008 Posted February 24, 2008 (edited) Hows about some mini corps/ensemble scores and reviews? Well ... it was a great afternoon of entertainment, camaraderie, bantering, heckling and just pure fun! After last year's inaugural North American Championship in Bridgeport, there was little doubt that a new I&E caravan of shows could duplicate fervor generated during the 60's and 70's when drum corps was a 12 month activity. Saturday's show at the Benda-Roehrich VFW Post 2867 in Garfield was co-sponsored by the NY Skyliners Alumni Corps and the Buglers Hall of Fame - a natural since a good deal of the BHOFers have worn the Red & Black of the Skyliners at one time or another. As was the case last year, a major snow storm hit the day before the show but I&E faithful from NY, NJ, PA, MA, CT journeyed to Bridgeport to partake in the event. Participants included members from Selden Cadets Alumni, Smithtown Freelancers, Reilly Raiders, Music Express, Brooklyn United, OLPH, CT Hurricanes, Sunrisers, NY Skyliners Alumni, Bushwackers, Bridgemen, Capital Brass and the St. Rita's Brassmen. Judges for the evening were Robert "Jomba" O'Conner on drums and Ray Troxell on horns. Awards were handed out for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the snare, soprano, baritone and mid-range categories. All other I&E sections were single entrants, with Capital Brass displaying exceptional talent with their brass ensemble ... unfortunately, their full mini-corps could not make the trip but, their ensemble appeared THREE times! ... and what they presented definitely whetted everyone's appetite for future shows they'll be appearing at. Selden, St. Rita's and Sky Alumni all appeared in exhibition - and all did an exceptional job - IMO. Selden's opening fanfare brought back visions of the 1964 World Open ... St. Rita's paid tribute to Ray "Konga" Richardson and Sky did their typical blockbuster performance reintroducing an all time crowd favorite: Alabama Jubilee ... The night ended with a raucous 50/50 drawing, which Bobby Bond tried to ... uh ... "steal" the winnings ... we gotta get him some reading glasses ... Be sure to attend one of the upcoming I&E shows in Bayonne on March 15th sponsored by the Bridgemen or the North American Championships in Bridgeport sponsored by the BHOF on March 29th. More information on times, directions, etc. will follow on this and othet Internet sites ... so, keep yer eyes open! Andy “your friendly I&E Show MC” Lisko Edited February 25, 2008 by ajlisko Quote
Mike_B Posted February 25, 2008 Posted February 25, 2008 Thanks, it sounds like you had a great time. Wish I lived on the East Coast! We miss a lot of good drum corps by living out here on the western frontier. Quote
