TomPeashey Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 To compete in DCA Prelims you must apply by 8/1. Let's not wait... here's my list of who I think is coming. Obviously, it's a very "educated" list... so my question is... is there any corps on my list that is NOT coming? Conversely, is there any corps that is coming that is not on the list...??? The following corps drew for positions in regular season shows and should be coming to DCA (but obviously Might NOT be coming like Austin Stars? Not sure of them... but Brent Unger has DCA on their schedule) Buccaneers - Reading PA Caballeros - Hawthorne NJ Empire Statesmen - Rochester NY Bushwackers - Harrison NJ Brigadiers - Syracuse NY Minnesota Brass Inc. - St. Paul MN Hurricanes - Seymore CT (Renegades - San Francisco CA not in sanctioned shows, but coming) CorpsVets - Atlanta GA Crusaders - Rochester NY Music City Legend - Nashville TN Govenaires - St. Peter MN (declared Class A) (SoCal Dream - Irvine CA not in sanctioned shows, but coming)(Class A?) Kilties - Racine WI Fusion Core - Morris County NJ (declared Class A) Alliance - Atlanta GA (Class A?) Chops, Inc. - Minneapolis MN (Class A?) Frontier - Dallas TX (declared Class A) Gulf Coast Sound - Houston TX (Class A?) White Sabers - Dansville NY (declared Class A) Lakeshoremen - Troy MI (declared Class A) Sun Devils - Orlando FL (or wherever they are from)(declared Class A) Carolina Gold - Rocky Mount NC (Class A? or open?) Excelsior - Albany NY (Class A?) Grenadiers - Kingston ONT (Class A? or open?) Shenandoah Sound - Sterling VA (Class A?) Austin Stars - Austin TX (Class A?) That's 27 corps - Class A declarations must be made before June 1, I have noted those received already as of 4/29. Possible additions who are far enough along to exhibit at shows might include: Derby City Knights Prairie Sound High Country Brass Masquerade Who am I forgetting or don't know about? Quote
CSGreen Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Prairie Sound and High Country Brass will be doing their first DCA show in Denton, TX this year, hopefully we'll see them at Prelims in a few years when they are ready for the trip Masquerade will continue doing the DCA-South/Central shows in the area, it's part of their growth plan to eventually go to Prelims, but that's still a few years down the road. quegrawks Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 (edited) I was told by one of the staff at Stars that they are not planning to attend DCA in Rochester. .. this may or may not be true, however, as it does still appear on their website schedule. Edited April 30, 2008 by quegrawks Quote

Brent Unger told me the Austin Stars weren't going to make it out to Rochacha this year. Quote
TomPeashey Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 That doesn't surprise me... Brent Unger is smart drum corps people and he wouldn't come unless they could afford it. Quote
Donny Drum Corps Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 When you add the mini corps and the Alumni corps that are invited on Sunday...that is quite impressive. Over 50? corps on a weekend. When is the last time DCI did that? And especially with that much diversity...there is something for everyone to enjoy. Nice Job DCA. Donny Quote

I don't think it's a matter of affording it. At the moment we have 9 horns, 9 guard, 2 drums. We just don't meet the criteria. We had 19 horns at open house so I'm not sure where thngs shifted. AFAIK, the current plan is to go to DCAS championships this year, then hopefully make it out yonder next. But I'm just a lowly member, so by no means the official word. Quote

I feel sad for you guys not being allowed to compete but I look forward to seeing you at the DCAS show. Well, knowing Brent, those nine horns are going to sound fabulous! You know thats right. He won a class A high brass championship in 2005. Edited April 30, 2008 by camel lips Quote
Shadow_7 Posted May 1, 2008 Posted May 1, 2008 Well, knowing Brent, those nine horns are going to sound fabulous! Well we've been sounding pretty good so far. I've got the recordings to prove it. Now that I think about it we had like 15 horns at open house. Something like 19 horns and 15 guard, 0 drums at the first drill camp. But it was decided that if we didn't have at least 40, it wasn't worth the risk attempting DCA. Since there's no concession if you show up with only 34. Too much chance that someones flight would get messed up, or some other conflict. So we opted for DCAS only. Closer, cheaper and all that jazz. I don't know if we'll continue to sound good. I'm about to switch from Euph to Trumpet. And one of the Contras will be taking my Euph spot. Ballancing out the corps and those are the horns(instruments) currently available(in stock). I think DCA is on our schedule because there's some of us planning on going, although not in a performance capacity at this point and time. Best of luck to all that do go. That's 27 for prelims, but 8 of those are question marks. Getting a little late in the season to be a ? Quote
