Contra Joe Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Since when is DCI know as: Drum Corps International :: Marching Music's Major League™ I guess DCA has been relegated to the Minor League. Maybe we can work our way upto AAA. This is not a knock on DCI, but I really never know that DCI officially went by Drum Corps International :: Marching Music's Major League™ Quote

Contra Joe Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 Don't know where you have been but it has been the moniker for DCI for at least the past 3 years now!! I guess I haven't looked for the past three years. I used to be a big follower but haven't ahd the time with the family. Boy am I out of the loop with DCI. I need to get to a show or two. Thanks for the update... Quote
donincardona Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 i may be in the minority but i think dci IS the minor leagues. in any sport the kids and younger and less experience is the minors. go ahead and bash me now. Quote
Bob J Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 How about girls gymnastics? aren't they over the hill at like 16? Quote
OldManDrumCorps Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 (edited) That moniker is fairly new. Like someone mentioned, 2 or 3 years. I'm not a fan of it personally. It just makes me think of that whole "professional marching band" thing that everyone hears at some point. I don't see how it has any bearing on DCA. DCA does it's own thing regardless of DCI. DCIHasBeen Posted May 7, 2008 Posted May 7, 2008 Didn't you realize, nothing else exists but DCI? Well, that's what they'd probably like potential sponsors and music educators to believe. I wouldn't worry too much about this particular bit of DCI pretentiousness. The fall of DCI is imminent. Quote

Well, that's what they'd probably like potential sponsors and music educators to believe.I wouldn't worry too much about this particular bit of DCI pretentiousness. The fall of DCI is imminent. The ONLY reason most music educators only know about DCI is because that's all they've ever heard about. For years, DCA was dropping the ball when it came to educating the masses about the "other" drum corps association. Thankfully for all, that has changed in recent years. Marketing DCA as an alternative to DCI is a real challenge since DCA is still trying to have a cooperative relationship with DCI. I know this dilema well, since my business is in the same boat. We really can't knock the competition because we need them for us to exist. Quote
