audition camps will be held tentively for nov 21 - 23 2008

The Band Hall has been chosen for the uniform supplier

we will hopefully be acquiring king ultimate marching brass instruments in august

looking for people who live around the area of mobile that would like to be a tech for the corps inaugural season

also looking for some ideas on drill software to purchase.

any help will be greatly appreciated

Pyware 3D Java is probably the leading software in drill designing right now. V-Drill would would be the next best thing, software designed by some of the key show/program designers at LD Bell HS (Hurst TX), so you know it was designed for directors/designers, by designers, which means it will be very functional and easy to use. It's also much less then Pyware, and does the exact same functions, as it offers the same functions. But most corps designers that I know are using pyware. V-Drill is fairly new but updated, so perhaps more people will start using it. I'm thinking it will be like Finale and Sibelius, where it becomes a matter of preference.

Good luck on starting the corps. Keep posting updates here. I'll be looking at joining a corps in the fall so who knows.

Not to my knowledge, but the name plus the relatively close proximity to Florida might make someone think this new group IS a rebirth of MoO. Corps DO move on occasion (Crossmen) and given the history of corps in Florida, someone might think the magic org moved to a more virgin corps area to try a restart.

Yeah I guess I understand that. That might help them with recruiting but of course they are not advertising any links to Orlando.

As far as the name goes...at least it's not Blue............ Blue Devils, Blue Stars, Blue Knights... :-)

True,,,,but using "blue" is MUCH more common than using "Magic"....the only other corps I know of was Rocky Mountain Magic our of Colorado back in the late 80s....befoe MoO started.

The major problem with the new corps is MoO DID have a measure of success and some great finals shows over the years....but their almost continual financial woes are ALSO a matter of public record....I'd just hate to see any new corps get tarred with that brush.

First of all, congrats on forming a corps in Mobile. There is definitely a practically untapped talent pool there and there is a LOT of potential for growth, both junior and all age. I wish you the best of luck and success.

I have to agree with Sam here. A key rule of marketing is to differentiate yourself and IMO, the term "Magic" could easily be confused with the other Magic. Besides, there are other names or references from Mobile's culture and history (besides azalea) that could be used to name the corps.

Sam also made a great point about Magic's financial woes being a matter of public record. Something to think about.

Again, congrats on forming the corps and may you have great success.

In case you missed it in John's posts, here is the corps website.
