BozzlyB Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 I'm curious where folks come down on this issue. In the grand scheme of things, should the top priority be to provide a quality educational experience, or to win at all costs. Quote

markdewine Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Education. All aspects of competition would be a sub-heading of education. i.e.- learn how to win; learn how to lose; teamwork, dedication, pride, humility, etc. Ultimately, it's all education, IMO. Quote

What about the role of a drum corps as an asset to its community? So maybe the choices shoud be : Education, Competition, or Community Service Quote

sburstall Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 What about the role of a drum corps as an asset to its community? So maybe the choices shoud be : Education, Competition, or Community Service For the modern drum corps (past 15 years) community really doesn't have much meaning since very few members come from the community. If the corps was truely a community based organization, then they would be doing things in the off-season as well, e.g. Christmas parades, Thanksgiving parades, etc. And even during the season they would still make time to do things for the community.
