brassomaniac Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) Troy Flag Day Parade was TODAY! We're back! Those who are not so thrilled with our less-than-traditional look, sound and approach, might be happier with our performance today. We've trimmed up the uniform, for a more corps-style look. Mixed in G bugles. Marched with a full, corps-style battery (Thanks TCL!) Were led by an Honor Guard Played traditional, corps-style arrangements, including: Alabama Jubilee and a John Williams Trilogy (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones) AND, of course, one of the most cherished of drum corps traditions; to honor our Flag and Country. We were humbled to have been asked to stop for two concert performances along the parade route: Performing "America, the Beautiful" for TV, under the Giant Flag draped across the street, in the downtown section; and, "Battle Hymn of the Republic" for the dignitaries at the reviewing stand. Both of these were special requests from the parade committee. If you wanted traditional drum corps to return to the Albany area; here it is! Edited June 9, 2008 by brassomaniac Quote
brassomaniac Posted June 8, 2008 Author Posted June 8, 2008 (edited) Our little corps was actually the LARGEST drum corps in the parade! (not just by girth, wise guys!) We were overwhelmed with the great feedback from parade goers who were happy to see us back on the streets of the Capital District, and were impressed with the huge sound our little corps put out! (we're small, but these guys can PLAY!) Also, from the announcer, after our performance at the reviewing stand: "The Capital District's VERY OWN drum and bugle corps... Capital Brass!" We haven't heard THAT for a lot of years. THANKS for ALL the kind words shouted out along the parade route (there were A LOT), and those offered afterwards as well. We'll do it again for the Troy Uncle Sam Day Parade, in September. Edited June 9, 2008 by brassomaniac Quote
skybusmgr Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 (edited) Those in the Albany that want to see the parade can tune to the public access channel on Time Warner, Channel 3. They broadcast it a few times during the week. Check local listings... Dano ps The heat was way too much for me. I walked the entire parade route and hopped in towards the end. Got to see the Marksmen (Springfield) who looked pretty darn good in the parade. Nice Honor guard. Drum line was rocking (old Excelsior Street beat rocked). Didn't get to hear the horns tho... I didn't see Excelsior or anyone else....who else was there? Guess I will tune into Ch 3 and see LOL.... Cool to see more drum corps presence in the Albany Area!!!! Yay! According to the line-up in the newspaper, just Capital Brass!, Marksmen, Excelsior. Plus the other usual suspects.... a couple each: Union Bands, School Bands, Pipe Bands. Of course, the school bands were MUCH larger than our little corps. Edited June 10, 2008 by brassomaniac Quote

And although we had a bunch of other member conflicts on the day... (like, 18 or so)... the players who were able to make it, really put on a great show, for a very appreciative crowd. It was obvious that we were welcomed back, by people on the sidelines. And the intro at the reviewing stand was tremendous. I never dreamed that we'd be remembered, or welcomed back, so well!!!
