runner_up Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 The only way that I see narration going forward and reaching its true potential is through the allowance of narrators to be over the age of 21. In winter guard shows, vocals are efficient and effective because the vocalist is on a pre-recorded track (legal) and has a voice that can maturly handle the narration and sell his/her story to the audience. If DCI were to allow for this to happen, it would greatly alter the reputation of this creative technique. Thoughts? Quote

Slow Adam Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Corps could just stop doing it if it sounds immature. Cadets wouldn't give an amateur trumpet player a solo. I'm not sure why they insist on doing just that with vocalists. Quote
ScarletKnight Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 What, like James Earl Jones or something? "Luke, I am your father..." Quote
elmhurstmusiced Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 THat would kick ###!!! That would mean that if the budget worked out, Cadets could have James Earl Jones tell us the meaning of life! I'm game for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
TrumpetJ Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 What, like James Earl Jones or something? "Luke, I am your father..." Aww ya beat me to it. Someone could do a baseball show and use some of his quotes from field of dreams lol. Quote
jonz311 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 that's another thing that can be used with the addition of electronics. voices can be sampled. It has been used effectively in WGI perc the past 3 years and created a very nice effect. Mission Viejo sampled Bonnie Raitt's voice in their show in 06 Quote
elmhurstmusiced Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 That would actually be cool, do a field of dreams show and have the voice of JEJ over it. OR do a field of dreams show, and on finals night find a way to tap into the stadium sound system and have the narration over the stadium PA, "if you build it, they will come." Quote

Thoughts? This is a youth activity. The cream of the crop. You wouldnt give a spot in the brass line to someone over the age of 21 because they can "play" better would you ?? Why would you make a focal point of ones show shine a spotlight on a member over the age of 21 ??? Let narration die, it doesnt work and altering a rule to accomodate creatively defunct designers, once again is self-serving and selfish, again, moving away from the "for the kids" mantra. What a joke, Geoffrey Quote
