mellophonium Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Does anyone feel that Teal or Surf didn't place as high as they deserved? Especially after how great and fun their shows were and how loud teals was(####!!!!) Quote
ArgonneRebel Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 1) Just because your show is fun does not mean it scores well. 2) Just because a corps is loud does not mean they are good. (Nothing against Teal in that remark though...loved their show). 3) Did you see their feet? Quote
ThatCorpsGuy Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 The placed pretty much where they deserved... Surf, while having a good show, had significantly less demand than many other corps, and their overall show design wasn't really up to their normal standards. If you're going to have less demand, you have to be uber clean, and they weren't. The show design simply didn't lend itself to winning a championship. Yes it was a nice show, but not meaty enough to claim a championship. Teal, on the other hand, had the demand and the design, but execution wasn't there, and they were a visual performance nightmare, which also seriously affected their music scores - particularly in the brass department. From how their technique appeared to lack definition, it was a recipe for bad transitions in drill, horrible starts/stops (which also affects attacks/releases), and overall bad execution. I loved their show design/concept (I've already downloaded a lot of the original music), but they got obliterated in overall execution. Just my 2 cents... Quote

MetalTones2012 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I do feel like Teal may have not received the score they deserved, but the Surf did. I personally thought their show was quite boring yet they scored less than a point from the championship title! Surf's time will come very soon if they stay in Open Class (I'd guess a little under a decade if they make the jump), but this year BDB and SCVC had the edge that they lacked. Quote

baritone9172 Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 That week it was a very tight race between BDB, SCVC, and Surf and even a tight one between the next bottom 4: Teal, OC, Spokane, and Citations. Teal flipflopped with OC, the top three were incredibly tight and anything could and did happen, and Spokane and Citations flipped spots too. At Quarters everyone deserved their placement as they did in semis and even finals, that day, everyone deserved their placements. Overall placements are hard to argue over because it is the sum of all judges opinions. Maybe if you wanted to argue Teal or Surf's brass score or something that is almost arguable because those always change from judge to judge, day by day. There is more of a chance to get jipped in one caption than to get jipped in an entire overall performance. even then... its still a tough argument. Congrats to everyone who competed this season, it was a VERY exciting one! Quote
PurpleKnights Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 I'm a little surprised no one has just come out and ripped on OC's placement yet. They were one of the most negatively reviewed corps on these forums this year. Quote
McDutchy Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Brass scores seemed wonky from semis to finals. Maybe everyone's runs really did change that much, or perhaps it was the judge. I will agree on overall placements, but I'm not sure about brass caption ranks. Quote

They were one of the most negatively reviewed corps on these forums this year. I doubt many, if any, will...OC had a great week, and a really good show. I saw if for the first time @ Quarterfinals, and enjoyed it...and, the baritone player in the wheelchair manuevering around the front portion of the field was cool... All in all, nothing to rip them on...they had a good design & execution and got what they deserved. Congrats, OC! Quote
