ajlisko Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 My father-in-law recently passed away and will be laid to rest on Monday, Sept 8th in Bridgeport, CT around noon at Lakeview Cemetery. He was a WWII veterran who served in New Guinea, the liberation of the Phillipines and Japan ... one of the many you see on those History Channel clips that stormed the beach ... The local Armory, who will be providing the military salute, cannot guarantee that a "live" bugler will be available that day to play taps ... I would rather not have the tape recording played ... but, that will be the case unless I find someone ... If anyone reading this is in the Bridgeport, CT area and can offer their services, please contact me at ajlisko@aol.com or 203-333-3786 ... I can promise you a greatful family trying to pay the proper honor and respect for their hero ... I can also promise plentiful food and libations after the ceremony ... I've left feelers out on some local corps' sites but, Monday's are tough because of work ... so I'm appealing to a broader base ... namely you, my drumcorps faternity ... If you're available, contact me and I'll send you the particulars. Thanks in advance, Andy Quote
PTFrank Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Sorry for your loss. Contact Bugles Across America. They have a web site with all the details. My son does taps in my area (Cincinnati) for BAA, and they do a good job of getting bulglers to honor our veterans. Quote

Yes Tom, Larry "G-horns" Girard has graciously volunteered his services on Monday to play taps. Larry and I played in Sky's Alumni for more than 10 years And a heartfelt thank you to you as well for offering to drive down from Albany to do the same. Our drum corps fraternity is certainly special ... huh? Thanks to all for your suggestions and messages of support through all of this. ... Another Soldier is Coming Home ... Andy Quote
Tom D'Bomb Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 Sorry to hear this.Sounds like a time for OperationTaps!!!! That's right - the OperationTaps web site has links to organizations that probably have brass players nearby. It also has a link to Bugles Across America which has thousands of volunteers nationwide. http://www.operationtaps.org/Content/UnitsByState.html Within the drum corps family, somebody knows somebody who knows somebody ... please keep us informed of your progress.
