Pioneer Announces 2009 Program

Our Program Coordinator, Mr. Joe Kuerzi, announced Monday that the theme for the Pioneer 2009 Production is, "CELTIC TRINITY." After 2 months of long discussions by our design team along with several creative show concepts and styles being considered, they have come up with an excellent and highly entertaining show. The music includes composer Brian Balmages’ "THREE CELTIC DANCES," and Steven Reinecke’s "RAGING RIVER." The music has a contemporary Irish sound, as compared to the more traditional Irish/American music that we have used in the past. We will also take advantage of the use of the new DCI rules regarding electronics to enhance our field presentation. The Brass Music will be Arranged this year by Mr. Donny Allen from Batavia, New York, who is also our Brass Caption Head. Many of our Pioneer Alumni will recall that Donny's arrangements of our highly successful (1998) Irish in Your Face and (2000) Brigadoon propelled us into the DCI Semi-Finals. Mr. Kuerzi and his staff are confident that these choices will provide the vehicle to once again capture the position of Semi-Finalist in the 2009 DCI Championships next summer in Indianapolis, Indiana. Next week Mr. Kuerzi will announce our current list of Pioneer specialists (Techs) for the various captions. Mr. Kuerzi will announce to you at the December 13th Banquet greater details as to our 2009 production. He will also be the banquet's featured speaker.

Pioneer has made the best decision by having Donny Allen write and teach the brass book. I have the highest respect for Donny ever since working with him at Crusaders (Rochester) and hope that this new style will be highly successful for Pioneer.

Great decision and I wish you the very best and Donny......take'em to the toppermost.

Are there plans in place to drastically improve and make the guard more contemporary too? If that happens, along with the program you have set forth for '09, then Pioneer should be on its way to having a great summer.

I loved Pioneer's show last year, I don't care what the scores were. It really was one of my favorites, because of the music.

I'm really looking forward to the new show this year.

Good to see that Joe Kuerzi is involved. I've known Joe for a long time have nothing but respect for his abilities. And DA is DA, I think Pioneer is in good hands.

"Into the Raging River" is cool. Did it with Bushwackers in 2001 and had a lot of fun.

Looking forward to hearing it on the field in 2009.
