Gary Matczak Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 (edited) Lake Erie Thunder is excited to announce our 2009 program entitled...... Lake Effect. The show will incorporate many styles of music with selections that will challenge the corps members and entertain audiences as well. There is something for everyone to enjoy in this production. Lake Effect is a natural phenomenon that occurs in the Great Lakes region under very specific conditions. It unleashes the power and fury of our atmosphere, without warning, and has a lasting impact on everyone who witnesses its force. The show will open with a rhythmically powerful arrangement from the soundtrack of the 1954 film classic, On The Waterfront by Leonard Bernstein. The show continues with a hauntingly familiar melody by Jim Morrison, Riders On The Storm, which builds to a powerful conclusion in the Matt Krempasky original, The Four Elements. The “calm before the storm” is portrayed in a beautiful arrangement of Over The Rainbow. This selection is a classic ballad with music by Harold Arlen and lyrics by E.Y. Harburg. The song's plaintive melody and simple lyrics depict a young girl's desire to escape from the hopeless jumble of this world, to the bright new world over the rainbow. The show concludes with an energetic presentation of a contemporary concert band piece, Into The Storm by Robert W. Smith. Edited December 29, 2008 by Gary Matczak Quote

KeithHall Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Interesting! I like the Buffalo influence of Harold Arlen's "Over The Rainbow." Living in Western New York I know what lake effect really is....Blizzard of '77. Quote
Bruckner8 Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 Love the title and concept. I wish you would've spelled the title "Lake Affect" to mess with people a little more, and add more subtle meaning to musical show vs a play on a weather event. http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/affect.html Quote
