brown55061 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I am not attacking in any way so if anyone takes it as that, grow up. When watching the DVD it seems like the Cadet hornline volume dropped by half when the drill got serious. I guess I can understand that but was that drill just that difficult or was it lack of skills? I'm not a horn player so enlighten me! :) I didnt notice any other top 6 hornlines muffled when the drill was tough but the Cadets were moving pretty quick. Anyway, just curious on everyone else's take. Maybe its just the newer cameras and sound equipment not covering up as many flaws as before because I seemed to hear more from all 6 corps where as the old school recordings make errors impossible to hear in the horns. *shrug* Quote
Lance Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 Cadets and lack of skills does not compute. The Cadets are consistently one of the best corps at playing hard and moving fast at the same time. Quote
SynthLine09 Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 (edited) Haven't seen the DVD/CD but from what I saw live that was the most exciting and energetic parts of their show. For that matter it was one of the most exciting moments in all of finals. Definitely didn't notice drop of volume, if anything I would say it got louder...crowd noise of course contributed to that some Edited January 7, 2009 by SynthLine09 Quote

The Brass Guy Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 It was pretty intense drill if i can remember right. It might of been the audio recording, but it's really up for discussion. Quote
luvs me sum mello! Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 I'd say they were lacking in confidence. Nothing at all against the membership, but that closer went through SEVERAL changes the last 3 weeks. It seemed like they couldn't find an ending they liked and constant changes show. Had they had a couple more days to work on their finals night product it would have been beyond the greatness it already was. Quote

I dont actually have the CD, just the DVDs. So if you folks with CDs had copies of the Texas show I have not heard/seen those. I am usually the first to compliment the Cadets on drill complexity and volume while doing it but the DVD showed major volume weakness during the final sequence but yea the drill was pretty fast moving! deltabass Posted January 6, 2009 Posted January 6, 2009 The balance may have been thrown off with possibly more intense and loud percussion parts, and the mike may have gone crazy, and the mixer didn't notice to fix that. there are a lot of balance issues on the recordings this year. Quote

It seemed like they couldn't find an ending they liked and constant changes show.Had they had a couple more days to work on their finals night product it would have been beyond the greatness it already was. The actual drill hadn't changed since the San Antonio regional, minus the removal of the last minute or so of the tag. The narration seemed to change every time I saw them, though. If the volume dropped, I wouldn't be surprised due to the drill, though I'm sure it's not all meant to be at FFF. That would just be bad writing.... If you start at fortissimo, where do you have to go from there? Besides that, it's going to sound bad when youre running and playing fortissimo no matter what you do or how good you are, so again, it would be smart to drop to a forte for a bit, and let loose the RFL at the end for an added impact. The end of the drum break and top half of the closer had some pretty ridiculous drill, too, if you watch individuals instead of form. (I never seem to notice how far people are running unless they're in a block or some kind of high impact move. The large curvy forms at the top of Vesuvius had just about everyone moving at a 6to5 in the mixed meter stuff, for instance) I think the fact that the volume didn't drop in those places proves my point.
