My wife and I would like to donate some food items to our fav corps in July when they come to our area.

I need suggestions on what would be good to take to their food truck the day before the show.

Thanks for any help...:)

A WalMart gift card. It can be used to purchase what they need, so no need to worry about getting them something they may or may not need.

If you must bring something, fresh fruit is always an excellent choice. Homemade cookies are also a nice touch (you just need to make a ton of them - you are feeding 200 kids, staff,a nd volunteers if it's a full corps).

I would advise AGAINST the freeze pops. They are hard to freeze, and consume precious space int he freezer.

If you can get in contact with them and see what they need that would be good. Usually they have their menus already thought out and could tell you what they need. If you can't though, they can probably use Ice, Cookies, bread or fresh fruit. Hopefully you'll know how much to buy by the size of their Corps.

Wish more people would do what you're doing. It helps tremendously.

That's very nice. I agree w/ MsBusDriver above, if you can. But if not it's ok. My daughter was thrilled tonight that the school that is housing them made them spaghetti! Goes a long way.

btw...As skyrider says..Walmart gift cards are great. I remember buying tons of bread and bagels for the morning and using up the walmart gift cards!.

I have to agree on the Wal-Mart gift card thing it will save money & a hassle when everthings said and done ! If your really

energetic make som really bomb BROWNIES about a thousand it can be done but you will have to put a crew together and

don't forget the frosting and you can make sugar free brownies with splenda also !

I'll be doing my cookies again in July for when they are in Texas. I'll get in contact with the corps beforehand to let them know...and I am going to see if they want me to put like 4 in a zip lock bag so they could use them for sack lunches at SA.

Thanks for the suggestions...:)

We were thinking about buying enough for a complete spaghetti dinner for the Corps.

Does that sound like a good idea?

We are not able to do homemade cookies at this time.

Any other suggestions?

Better yet -- get a group of volunteers together and prepare and serve the meal -- donate your time AND the food. It will be a treat for the members and the incredible volunteers who toil in the food truck will have a meal off. My brother and I did this for our favorite DCI corps in 2003 when they were in our town (might be the same corps as yours!) and it was a ton of fun for us and the members. And the food was good too!

I remember we had tons of fresh fruits and melons that tend to spoil quckly and don't travel well, and I distinctly remember that being a real treat for the members. I also remember we made them something unique that they otherwise wouldn't get -- homemade, a local treat, etc. That was a hit as well.

Have fun with it -- and regardless of what you do, know that it makes a difference!

if you're looking to take something like food, I'd suggest fruit. fresh fruit is always amazing on tour. my personal favorites were watermelon (it'll keep for a while if they can't use it all or if they want to only serve some of it).

pineapple is great too, but doesn't go as far. and apples and bananas are always a great alternative.

personally, my favorite donations were fresh fruit. :)

Fresh fruit is a good one. I think cereal is also a good choice. We used to go through cereal like crazy.
