Trombean
Just a quick question. Why do drum corps warm up with space chords? What is that supposed to teach? Is it just for hype?
84BDsop
Paying attention to the conductor for one thing, since it's a random exercise until you get to the chord resolves.
DcFr3aK
It also is a hearing exercise. As we did it at Crown for tuning, we would play space chords and resolve to our tuning pitches or some chord from within our show. It develops your chops and ears to land centered on a specific pitch be it leaping up from a lower pitch or coming down from one higher in the register. Plus it's cool! Galen
Helps you remember pitch centers, helps with circular/stagger breathing, and helps you watch for cutoff so you're not THAT guy. And yes, it is a great hype.
bluublood
It's a great volume exercise.
Shadow_7
It teaches you that when you're NOT playing in unison, you have to play louder. Which you might not otherwise experience in a section of 20+ divided between 3 parts.
Silver_King
The school i teach at I did it to lighten the mood up. The kids love doing it which made our sectional time alot smoother.
MDBaritone
Tons of fun to play for one thing.
bmancwbd
balance and blend, development of tone quality at louder dynamics, show hype, tuning, and a perfect way to end your warm up:)
Schickmeister
Meh who cares what they teach. They sound cool. You don't really learn anything in drum corps anyways. It's not musical at all.
