BD started this trend, and it seems that Surf, Boston, Glassmen, Genesis, Revolution, Blue Knights, Pacific Crest, and Spirit are also doing it.

Why the white plumes with dark uniforms?

It's a pretty good idea, accentuate the drill from up top with the white plumes, featuring all the benefits of black pants.

Hardly a fad I would say. Corps from back in the day that I can think of off the top of my head...

Freelancers

Star of Indiana

Suncoast Sound

Dutch Boy

Boston

This has been around since dci was new....

I see it as a returning trend, the same way fashions in clothing seem to cycle over time.

BD as well....they didn't go black plumes until 94. Almost every corps with shakos had white plumes...exceptions I can think right now would be Kingsmen and Suncoast at times.

Didn't Colts recently switch to white plumes as well? Hardly a dark uniform, but it supports the "trend" stance.

Yes, Colts did this year, and Boston last year.

I like it. It brightens up the field a bit, and helps make the forms pop out a little more. Much better than watching black blobs morph around the field. (Yay for white-capped blobs!)

That one made me sad. They really pulled off the red plumes well.

I always thought Blue Stars bright RED plumes were great.

I wish they would try those again.
