Rewards of moving Championships?
burdettsky replied to wolfgang's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
It has been listed here in the past not sure where, but attendance has risen in Indy from year to year. And to be honest, being there every year, more and more people are seated in the end zone each year. My first time in 2018, nobody was in the end zone, now there are quite a few seats being used in that area on both sides. -

No shade meant, but the attendance at Indy goes up every year, so the acoustics are not a hinderance. I'm fortunate to have seats in the 50 in the lower lever and the sound is incredible. I'm actually low enough that there is sometimes some sound effects that I don't hear because they literally go over my head. I hear things in videos after the fact that are new to me. No rain, no wind, no heat, a level playing field for everyone who performs is a great thing for the performers, which is who the activity should cater to in my opinion. I'd love to hear what the members think about performing there. -

He actually called my principal and left a message over a wisecrack I made about him on a post somewhere. You should've seen me trying to explain the whole situation. My principal was mildly amused, and basically said, "So don't call him back then?", to which I said no.

I have no idea what the meaning was of Bluecoats show, seriously. With that, I enjoyed the heck out of it, because they could play, march, move and spin. I've had this conversation with others, that I cease to care what the shows are about, mainly because I don't understand some of them. But if they can play, march, move and spin, at least for me, it doesn't really matter what the show is about. People get paid to sort out effect and scores and numbers, I pay to be entertained, and for the most part, I am. The Bluecoats show could've been called, "Hey look, we wear red now" and I would've felt the same way about the show. This is not a bashing of Bluecoats, as I could've picked a few other corps in this category. It just seemed starting at the top was obvious.

Most Beautiful Ballads by Corps - Since 1999

The day after my father's funeral, I went to a drum corps show in Clifton, NJ. It was July of 1999. You know, theraputic. It was a YEA show and I thoroughly enjoyed the brief getaway. After the performances, the Cadets, Crossmen, Carolina Crown and maybe Boston (don't entirely remember if they were the fourth corps) had a mass performance of Cadillac of the Skies. Yeah, the water works were flowing for that. Fortunately, they performed Boogie Down immediately afterwards and the tears stopped flowing and chaos ensued, the good kind!

I don't know if I'd say survival mode. Since returning in 2014, the only season they missed was during covid, where even the Reading Buccaneers took the year off. 2024 was the only year of those where I would say they were small (under 40 members). So at least from that standpoint I wouldn't call ten years survival mode. Now I can't speak of anything financially, but doing some math, Soundsport may be a less pressure filled way to stay involved, and hopefully figure out how to recruit a larger corps. That comment is merely because the minimum membership numbers have been raised. Hopefully they can keep things going, save some money, and look to the future. But as Jeff said, I think we all want them active, and if this is what it takes for now, then best of luck to them!
