In The News: Sutherlin Woman, First Female Bugler In Army Dies

Last year, Donna-Mae Smith of Sutherlin was inducted into the Buglers Hall of Fame, partly because she had been the first female bugler in the U.S. Army.

Not too long ago, Smith played taps at an average of 100 veterans’ funerals a year in Douglas County.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guard with which she played will be honoring her Wednesday at a 2 p.m. graveside service at the Roseburg National Cemetery.
