  1. So far, so good. Well, that didn't last long. Did it? Well, actually, you didn't say it until you just said it. But that's just my opinion.

  2. That has got to be the ultimate game face, holding oneself tight to the ground while the insides are jumping up and down.

  3. Cadets when announced 2011 World Champion...the ENTIRE corps.

  4. You're not more sarcastic than me, you're just better at it. +++ Re: the thread topic? Yeah, me too. Every time some corps wins the Ott Award, it always ticks me if off they don't jazz run the entire show. It makes me mad for a year, then I feel the need to go on DCP and tell everybody, so they'll realize they're mad, too. What kind of crazy person wouldn't feel that way?

  5. Why don't we just put all the brass lines on treadmills, crank the #### things up as high as they go, and make them play their shows. THEN we'll really know who's best!

  6. I'll preface this by saying I didn't like Crown's show... That said, they sound good. They sound good moving, they sound good standing still, they sound good in an arc, they sound good facing back field, they sound good warming up, they sound good in leon may's crazy field coverage. Crown would sound good marching PR, Cavies, Cadets, BD, etc's show. They would straight up sound good. Period. They have talent top to bottom, a great instructional staff, and almost everyone in their hornline makes a good, dark, characteristic sound on their instruments.

  7. <-Phantom Regiment will play "Romeo"> This could take it all...if they use Prokofiev's ballet for source music...

  8. To play along, there are no firm rules. As for titles, you might combine Glassmen's "IMAGO" with Bluecoats' "Imagine" and tell us what the new show would be about. Or, you may combine the names of individual selections to come up with something new. Or, you may combine different repertoire selections from different shows from the same corps or different corps to come up with a theme that is new and unexpected. Or, you may come up with another idea to entertain us as we approach the coming of falling leaves. Alternately, what might happen if you deleted a piece of music or a visual motif in a show? Would you come up with something quite different? The only firm rule is to have fun. Enjoy.

  9. It doesn't have to be on the table or real. It's September and rampant speculation is all we've got to go on. I'll give you an example: Has anyone else heard that there may be a new corps circuit starting up in Iceland?

  11. Anyone see the cover of the 2011 World Championships DVD yet? The face of that Cadets Drum Major.. Now THAT is what I call an awesome game face.

  13. The Cavaliers are a group whose last 20 years have been predicated upon letting the staff open their minds, come up with creative ideas, embrace the education process, and collaborate on a grand scale. The Cavaliers will still march well, play well, be innovative visually, march geometric form transitions, and be all male. The Staff will still be educated, good, creative, and have a large influence on the Corps. The more things change there, the more things stay the same. They are the sum of their parts, not the sprocket of one man.

  16. God, I hope not. One of my favorite Phantom shows was during the khaki years, however. 2002. Great show. Highly underrated. But those unis are lame.

  20. you have actually touched on one of the more subtle reasons we dropped the word "alumni" from our corps name,...............I really consider alumni corps as being a sub group of a wide variety of types of non-competing corps, a much larger group of corps that are not the typical alumni corps We have played stuff from back in the late 50's when the Thunderbirds were first formed, to playing a very modern version of Appalachian Spring,..............all in an effort to draw people that want to play, but not necessarily feel excluded simply because the are not a drum corps alum, let alone an ex-T-bird

  21. LMAO as I heard "That ain't Drum Corps" in 1975.... How about this idea <diving for cover>. Each Alumni-type (yeah gonna keep saying type) corps does their own thing without worrying what others do or think. And if you don't like what what they do... well you just found your bathroom corps.... Personally I'd welcome any corps as that's keeping the activity alive. (I just might be in the bathroom during their show.)

  23. IMO they are two vastly different eras and should both be appreciated for what they are. Don't try to merge the two and make one of them out to be anything other than it is.

  26. OR, should this whole thread be removed since it's off topic in drum corps ?

  27. You know what gets me about responses such as this? That the acceptance or rejection of an OPINION (by some) depends on someone qualifying their ability to offer an OPINION based on their corps experience. Is there some expected level of experience that is required to reach for an opiono to be accepted? Really? Is there a certain quality of resume' required? Give us a break. It is a persons opinion and, in this instance, is based on observation. Yeah, their "conclusion" is based on observation but I see nothing wrong with it and it is completely within their right to present it. It is self-evident to that particular poster. The poster was only asking if anyone else had a similar observation. Nothing really judgemental about it and it really didn't come across as bashing as they feared. I agree that moving while playing a difficult passage may take away from the music but at this level of drum corps, however, a corps at this level (top 5) SHOULD be able to move and play (difficult drill and music) with equal high levels of performance. If you don't and someone else does, you should not be rewarded equally. All that being said, I don't believe you are owed an explanation of the posters conclusions. The post says it sufficiently. In my opinion.

  29. Madison will be Madison. I await the time when the Scouts can finally get back in the top 8.

  30. Yeah- what they said. Crown has been good the last few years but Madison has a rich history and they're just coming home where they belong.

  32. I would pick the Buccaneers. As the new director, I would gather everyone in the corps together and tell them: "Nothing's broken. Nothing to fix. Keep doing what you've been doing, because it obviously has been working." Then I would resign as director and hand the reigns back to Jim Gruber and the rest of the crew there.

  33. I saw the retreat on DCI.org that night. They showed guys in Cadets keeping their form - but the tears were just rolling down their faces. It made me cry too. to the corps for keeping form when you know they wanted to jump, cheer and celebrate right then.

  35. Phantom Regiment will stick with Classic roots and stage the entire opera of "Tannhauser" within 12 minutes. This will win the hearts of fans and every drum major will die come the closer.

  36. Either Colts or The Academy will make finals. I've noticed a trend recently that the previous years 15th or 16th place corps always makes finals. Madison Scouts 2007: 15 2008: 12 Troopers 2008: 16 2009: 12 Madison Scouts 2009: 15 2010: 10 Spirit 2010: 16 2011: 12 JUST SAYIN'

  37. That's what I heard this year and boy was I led wrong. Just kidding, MotorCityPercussion, and paraphrasing what you replied to me back in June when I suggested that you not sell Spirit short. Glassmen had a great show this year, as did Troopers and Academy. All three corps performed the heck out of their shows and kept the pressure on all the way to Indy. There have been many years (dare I say most years) that all three of those shows would have easily made it into the Saturday night show, so they should ALL be proud of their showing in 2011.

  38. Can't believe someone actually gave you -1! What? Anyway, LMFAO.... Brasso and MnDCI Fan already beat me to it. Boston won't be picked 11 or 12 because BK will get that reserved for them.... hahahaha Oh wait, they'll be picked out of finals, maybe 11 or 12 is open for Boston after all?? In fact only two actual placement predictions, where's BK ranked? 11th!!!! oh well, not everyone wants to see them in the top 6 like we do I guess. I would be guessing that rentention in BK and Boston is going to be great and BK seemed to have a small ageout corps as does Boston I'm guessing. Experience and Good Designing is a successful recipe.... My Random 2012 Guesses before the World Ends: 1) Crown 2) Cadets 3) Cavies 4) BD 5) Phantom 6) Boston 7) BK 8) SCV 9) Bluecoats 10) Madison 11) Blue Stars 12) Spirit Wes P

  41. Between BD and Cadets Cavies slip behind with not enough to add or clean Crown gets the crowd vote but just can't get to the peak BD started off in the back of the pack for a reason, to make the kids fight harder towards the end of the season. Hasen't been a huge push but a steady climb back to the top with the big push next week. Cadets started off strong but I worry that they will peak too soon or just run out of gas next week. They have worked hard all season and the tank might be running low. All 4 have the shows but I think it comes down to how the moral has been managed and whos really prepared for the final 2 weeks No matter what, it's a great horse race to the finish line
