  1. So far, so good. Well, that didn't last long. Did it? Well, actually, you didn't say it until you just said it. But that's just my opinion.

  2. Leave it to DCP to turn a great honor for drum corps into an argument. Geez.

  3. I watched that earlier today. For any 21st century drum corps fan who wonders what all the old fossils are fussing about, listen to the snare sound the Kilties put out. THAT'S what we're talkin' about! (and don't listen on your cheap laptop speakers, use some good headphones ) +++ Edit: Wow, someone gave me a (-) sign for liking Kilites snare sound. Cool, I'm worth hating on. I'M SOMEBODY!

  4. Crown had the best sound, and the most simultaneous demand on the field. Did you not see them perform Paint it Black? The hornline was marching their tails off the ENTIRE time, and played with a much better sound than the Cadets did standing still. I don't understand how that Cadets hornline was even in the top 5 (Or the corps itself for that matter....dirtiest corps to ever win DCI).

  5. So...after carefully viewing many performers through my binoculars this season...I have come up with the 'Best Game Face of the year' award winner....or in this case...we have winners...(More than one) In no particular order.... Shorter Asian Girl snare drummer in the Blue Knights snareline The entire snareline of the Bluecoats Oh....and a special award 'Most entertaining individual to watch'....the trap person in the pit of the Cascades.... I know...I am strange..and probably need an intervention...

  6. Well those dozen or so bone-heads are just going to have to stand up just like the rest of the thousands of Scout fans in the stands, aren't they?

  7. Apparently, you're bothering people. Nope. If you feel this way, you are too close to the competition and the way the above post is written suggests that the writer doesn't know what they are talking about. I'm not the biggest fan of EVERYTHING Crown does, but it's not easy marching. Also, your argument is tired and unoriginal. What you describe does not get extra points it seems. Thanks for you 5th post in 2 years!

  9. I thought some of you might find this lighthearted poke at Indianapolis amusing, considering it's the home of DCI and its biggest shows. Be sure to watch the video... http://www.theonion.com/articles/indianapolis-announces-really-embarrassing-bid-for,26149/ If DCI keeps championships in Indy through 2020, maybe they should fire up the old "musical sport" campaign again and try to get the OOC to recognize drum corps as an Olympic sport!

  10. Game face = the way people look at a fat person coming down the aisle of a Southwest plane with few seats left. Bored Face = All of DCP watching your home movies Michael Boo you as a child

  11. The kid two rows in front of me at Allentown had a pretty decent game face whenever the hot dog guy came around.

  12. (Enters the minefield): This just in: There is no conspiracy (nor was there ever) to keep a corps (or corps) from the top ten of DCA. Ohio Brass simply wasn't good enough to make the cut, in the four years the corps competed. Steel City didn't win in 1986 because Bush had a monster drumline. Kilties made the top ten this year, because they earned it.

  14. Well...I would hardly describe this as bothering me. However, since you asked......what constitutes difficulty vs what is the most effective performance of the material is the question. Quality of design is about the dynamics, flow and quality of the performance both visually and musically. In short, difficult does not mean good, it just means difficult. Being an old rock drummer, I always studied the masters of the trap set and the "best" (IMO) were always the ones that put just the right stuff where it was needed for the production, not the drummers who were unapproachable soloists. So my comment on the treadmill highlighted the absurdity of defining a brass line based on difficulty. Is it a factor? Of course, but the park and bark is part of the show design, meant for a particular emphasis, and not to make something easier to play. That is the inference with some on here, and it just isn't so. Also, suggesting a corps is purposefully masking "ease" through slight of hand by having other parts of the corps do difficult drill symultaniously is again ignoring the intent of the design. So which is better? Simple gifts played wonderfully, balanced and emotionally in an parallel approaching company front.....or.....simple gifts played wonderfully, balanced and emotionally....running backwards?

  16. That would be way back in 1988. And that was supposed to be SCV's year while '89 was supposed to belong to Phantom Regiment.

  18. Well, it certainly is interesting, especially since this was only their fifth post since they joined on August 27, 2009 (over two years ago) and were active on this board as recently as this morning. But maybe that's just me.

  20. LMAO as I heard "That ain't Drum Corps" in 1975.... How about this idea <diving for cover>. Each Alumni-type (yeah gonna keep saying type) corps does their own thing without worrying what others do or think. And if you don't like what what they do... well you just found your bathroom corps.... Personally I'd welcome any corps as that's keeping the activity alive. (I just might be in the bathroom during their show.)

  22. i love all kinds of shows all the way back to the 70's.. but i'll just do the past 5 summers.. 2011 - carolina crown (it was definitely the most entertaining) and phantom's closer (especially at finals) 2010 - no one... no seriously.. well. cavaliers opener of mad world was awesome as well as crown's mahler and nimrod.. but that was about it. 2009 - carolina crown (... 'nough said) 2008 - phantom (i thought the show concept was awesome) and bluecoats (also a really good show concept) annddd cavaliers (also a really cool concept).. '08 was a good year for DCI 2007 - carolina crown.. and im suprised no one else has put this on their list. the horse show was awesome! it was the stepping stone for crown's success. and out.

  25. I didnt even know what DCA was, let alone the Kilties until 2006 and I see it more from them than any other corps. I dont read every single thread here on DCP but I dont see any Bucs, MBI, Empire, Govies, Fusion, etc. members posting NEGATIVE comments. Yes they post but do they get all pissy? Not really.

  27. 1. but to say Madison has a rich history means very little considering they have all new teaching personnel. WRONG 2. The Board threw-out most of the people like Scott Stewart who knew anything about their 'rich history' and the core of The Corps. WRONG 3, , People age-out, instruction staff changes and no one may be around who really understands what Madison WAS.... WRONG 4.Steve Vickers, publisher of DCW might be one person who can quote chapter and verse about Madison Scouts, he has been involved in some way with the Corps, forever.. and he doesn't march and probably has very little to say about what goes on there. WRONG (only Steve? Really?) 5. When Drum Corps were more neighborhood oriented, and members were local kids, you could keep the nucleus in place for more years, now members might belong for 2 or 3 years max. So, it is more accurate to say Madison Scouts will establish themselves.............again, ..(hopefully) yes hopefully people may know who the Scouts are again

  28. Allow me to send you to SCV 2011. Their intro piece was Barber's "First Essay for Orchestra". It was great, and really set the mood for that show.

  29. Have always loved Madison, Scott Boermas arrangements and the rest of what was in the 90s, but to say Madison has a rich history means very little considering they have all new teaching personnel, the Board threw-out most of the people like Scott Stewart who knew anything about their 'rich history' and the core of The Corps, so to speak, is new and has nothing to do with what Madison used to be.. People age-out, instruction staff changes and no one may be around who really understands what Madison WAS....Steve Vickers, publisher of DCW might be one person who can quote chapter and verse about Madison Scouts, he has been involved in some way with the Corps, forever.. and he doesn't march and probably has very little to say about what goes on there. now, but I don't know.. 41. I'll play... 1. Blue Devils (I just expect this, not necissarily want it) 2. The Cadets 3. Phantom Regiment 4. The Cavaliers 5. Bluecoats 6. Carolina Crown 7. Boston Crusaders 8. Blue Knights 9. Madison Scouts 10. Santa Clara Vanguard 11. Spirit of Atlanta 12. Crossmen - tough call between them and The Academy 13. The Academy 14. Blue Stars 15. Glassmen 16. Troopers 17. Colts 18. Teal Sound 19. Pacific Crest 20. Cascades (would really like to see this group move up!) 21. Mandarins 22. Jersey Surf 23. Pioneer I expect the same Open Class corps from this year to crack the Top 25 to perform Friday (Blue Devils B, Oregon Crusaders, Vanguard Cadets) but think Spartans will continue to improve and may knock off Jersey Surf. I also hear East Coast Jazz may return next year which could be interesting to watch over the next couple years.

  42. Either Colts or The Academy will make finals. I've noticed a trend recently that the previous years 15th or 16th place corps always makes finals. Madison Scouts 2007: 15 2008: 12 Troopers 2008: 16 2009: 12 Madison Scouts 2009: 15 2010: 10 Spirit 2010: 16 2011: 12 JUST SAYIN'

  43. That's what I heard this year and boy was I led wrong. Just kidding, MotorCityPercussion, and paraphrasing what you replied to me back in June when I suggested that you not sell Spirit short. Glassmen had a great show this year, as did Troopers and Academy. All three corps performed the heck out of their shows and kept the pressure on all the way to Indy. There have been many years (dare I say most years) that all three of those shows would have easily made it into the Saturday night show, so they should ALL be proud of their showing in 2011.
