  1. Maybe they'll put the FULL Madison show on the 2011 DVDs as an Easter Egg...?
    7 points
  2. Wow. Just...um...wow. I'm not doing a story on Easter Eggs. Since I'm friends with the people who make the DVDs, I could just ask them if I wanted to know myself where they all are. And being that I've witnessed them each year they have been there, it's not a pressing thing for me. But I did think others might want to know and I thought others might wish to be the ones to tell them. I'm sorry if that offended you for some reason to cause you to lash out like that. I've never seen a topic before on where all the Easter Eggs are. I thought some would be inspired to go back in their DVDs and witness them. Such as those who have the Legacy Series 1981 DVD would be interested in hearing the audio tracks from Montreal as the videos were made at Whitewater. (And no, I didn't ask anyone about that. I knew about it when I wrote the Legacy Series liner notes.) I have asked DCP members for stories they would like to share from time to time. That's because I respect the members of DCP and I know there are great stories out there that others would enjoy knowing about and that the contributors would enjoy sharing. Drum corps is about sharing our love of the activity. I make no apologies for believing that. I've gotten some great stories from readers (always attributed to them in the heading) and I hope I continue to get great stories, and if you've got one we should know about, please drop me a line. And even if I did ask for help ALL the time from DCP members...well, I wouldn't ask for stories from people I don't respect.

  3. I forgot that we put that on the DVD with the censoring beeps. I just pulled out the 2007 disc and listened to it and laughed. Of course, that was a little entertainment value added since I would never swear on the intercom. I can't tell you how many shots have been changed over the years because a judge stands right in front of the lens at just the wrong time. Of course, it does show that we have the camera in the right place for the performance!

  5. And before people post, they should realize that this a quite an old thread

  6. That's ok. Your performances probably don't much matter to today's members either. Good lord, we need an Extinction Level Event to get rid of *some* of these bitter old dinos :)

  7. This, so much of this. If every person who wanted to see The Academy go on a full tour took a second to vote, they would have the 250,000$ in the bag. We can make this happen with such a small gesture!

  8. ...they DID include version numbers which let you know exactly how old each version was. DCP offers a similar feature. It lets you know how old a thread is before you post in it.

  9. The people on this board never cease to amaze me with their stupidity. FWIW, if you don't think drum corps today "matters," what does it say about yourself that you're wasting your time on the internet posting about an activity that "doesn't matter?"

  11. Easter eggs are bonuses. But for those who don't have the time to look for them, that's why I started this topic.

  12. That's one of those posts where you really should follow the rule of "don't ever say anything on the internet that you wouldn't say directly to the person's face." You might consider that rule (and yes, I would say that to your face if you were standing here in front of me). As for your first question to Mr. Boo, it doesn't deserve an answer, but I will do it for him. I would guess that MAYBE one in 200 stories he writes come from DCP. The rest are his contributions as a journalist who, somehow, finds vivid, positive words for EVERY corps he writes about on your CD and DVD liner notes. Seems as though this post has NOTHING to do with writing a story. Rather than that, he was just sparking a conversation to help fellow corps fans find aspects of products they have already bought. Also, his DCP posts are seldom if ever negative....he only contributes to the activity in a positive way. Do you?

  13. Thought that would get you to read this! LOL This morning while in the shower, for some reason, I was thinking about the dreaded 1985 Bridgemen and the Christmas in July themed show. Could this had been the signal to us about "The Day That Drum Corps Died?" Of course I jest there...it isn't dead, just taking a well-deserved rest until we start to see corps sprouting up all over the country and Canada once again. Back to my shower....I started to become depressed thinking about the '85 Bridgemen and comparing it to the 1976 Bridgemen. Where did it all go wrong? I remember seing them at World Open and said, "What the heck is that?" Can someone tell me WHAT HAPPENED?

  15. Reports of a mass exodus are greatly exaggerated! :-) We've posted complete staff announcements for each caption, complete with biographical information. You'll see lots of familiar names in those announcements. Some new ones, too. For years now, prospective members considering joining the Reading Buccaneers could rest assured that they will be taught by and will perform a show designed by some of the very best this activity has to offer. 2012 will be no exception!

  16. I'll play: 1) Cavaliers-- Will do something even more macho and athletic. Maybe Cowboys and Aliens 2) BD's -- As usual, in the hunt 3) Cadets-- Can't do 2 in a row any more IMO. Love them though! 4) PR-- The guard was holding them back before but now is an asset. Integrate the GE visual and you move up. 5) Crown-- Sorry. Don't see a move up here. 6) SCV--Solid 7) Bluecoats-- Will do something completely different this time and may move up from here 8) Madison-- Makes a big jump doing more of what they do best. Still need to get the guard more integrated into the show 9) Boston 10) BK 11) Stars 12) Troopers Got lazy at the end with reasons. Just 'cause. I also don't expect it to be quite such a nail-biter at the top which is a shame.

  17. Maybe not an entire show being awful, but i'm sure DCP would admit there have been awful moments. NOT directed at BD. Kind of just an overarching statement of the history of DCI.

  18. I assume you meant Pio? If you don't know the story behind my corps movements then i understand that comment. If you do then you'd never say anything to me about what corps i march with. (PM me if you want). And I agree the shows I've marched never had extremely WOOO moments. I can proudly admit that. But don't you ever, ever disrespect where I've marched without understanding my story.

  19. In the topic about the 2007 DVD review, oldbandguy asked, "By the way, are there "easter eggs" in previous year's DVDs?" It's a great question. If you know of Easter Eggs in any of the prior DVDs, please post them here so fans can go back into their collection and enjoy them.

  20. Holy cow: this sheds so much light on the constant, "why didn't they show section X instead of section Y here?!" For some reason, I feel like you just served us the holy grail of information!!!

  21. You also realize that it's likely that to kids marching today, the "83-88 Knights" or whatever you marched don't matter in any way, shape, or form, correct? Which is sad to me, because as a DCI Alumni myself, part of the G Bugle generation, it's idiots like you who not only give ALL of the DCI Alumni a bad name, but you also proliferate that DCI Alumni in general are old crotchety farts who they are unable to please, no matter how much work, soul, emotion, and power they are putting into their performances. What a terrific way to act. DCI already has enough things working against it that it doesn't need jacktards like this who claim to have marched in the past going online and wasting everyone's time bringing the current generation of kids down.

  22. VoteAcademy.com Couldn't be any easier than this. It takes 30 seconds of your time. Also, make sure you vote for your other favorite drum corps who are also competing. You can search for them on the Chase Community Giving Challenge website.

  26. The best part about this is they would get to tour and perform in places they have not been able to in the past. I know how much I enjoyed the shows more back in Rockford when a corps who we never got to see before made their debut in Boylan stadium. It was a treat for the corps and especially a treat for the fans in Rockford.

  28. It was a great weekend in Hershey and Millersville! Thank you so much to Mitch Adams and Cavalcade of Bands for rolling out the red carpet to the Buccaneers once again. Speaking of red, it was great to spend some time getting to know some of our friends in the Caballeros even better. Messrs. Ponzo, Fontanelle, Prince and Katz....you guys rock (and have the BEST neon yellow pens)! Have a great winter and we'll look forward to taking the field with you in June! Lots of buzz about the recruting table and lots of great conversations with prospective members, parents, alumni and friends. We've now posted the entire staff roster - it's a world-class staff that will put together and teach a world-class program. We're ready for another great year - we just need YOU to be part of it! November 27. It all begins then. Join us. www.readingbuccaneers.org

  29. This has been discussed in another thread, but this is indeed a great article and real insight into producing the DVD's/blu-rays. I love that he and his team seem to be constantly striving for a better product, and props for the idea to convince the corps to move their speakers a few feet up in order to get optimized sound for the recordings. I also appreciate that both Tom and his production director are drum corps vets who likely have a strong grasp of what is the focus when: even before collaborating with corps staff. Really, this article does nothing but whet my appetite for the Blu-rays I ordered!

  34. I don't necessarily dislike the Bluecoats uniform the past couple years but I do really miss the uniform seen in this video. It was just very classic Bluecoats....now, you really have to look close to be sure it isn't Blue Knights or Blue Devils when they first step out on the field.

  36. Honestly Daniel, there's not enough money in the DCI system to warrant this large of a reorganization. The total budget for the entire org is a fraction of what some local charities spend in a year. A simpler proposal would be to modify DCI in the following ways; A Board of 7 members, with one appointee representing the Open Class corps, two reps from World Class corps, the DCI Exec Director, and three outside directors with business and marketing experience. Stagger the terms so that the Board is refreshed regularly without being completely changed in a single season. The primary focus of the new Board would be to grow DCI's revenues and participation at all levels of the activity, and they would have flexibility to look at a number of options in pursuit of those goals, including acquisition of like-minded organizations (like WGI) that can be used to increase the activity's footprint and expand avenues for participation. Eradication of the annual rules congress in favor of having rules congresses just once every five years. No mature sport changes their rules as often as DCI does, and the frequency of the rules conventions allows for a mindset that sees changes as being cheap and easy. A requirement that any rules changes that would require capital outlays for new equipment for the competing corps be paid for by DCI, which would make it less attractive for those corps with means and/or sponsorship deals to just assume that they can push through changes for everyone else without seeing some personal hit via reduced disbursements from the general fund. Once DCI is in the range of $20 million a year, then there's enough money to start splitting into more focused areas of concern, but they're a long ways off at this point. The focus now should be on expanding the pool of participation - when you do that, you expand the pool of available dollars and increase the fan base commensurately.

  47. If DCI is going to put them on there, they might as well put them on the menu. what a waste if people don't get to enjoy all the features of the disc. Total BS if you ask me. Also, if people knew some of the "bonus features" of the disc, it could encourage more sales of that item. Especially for example if the 81 DVD offers the bonus feature of audio recordings, etc. You would think DCI would want to encourage more sales of their items.
